Freebie Friday! The Boom Box Bag

I’m bringing back more retro technology! x3 I’ve already got the Floppy Disk Coasters and tablet case that looks like an old school Gameboy, now boom boxes get a chance to shine! Ahh, the hours I used to spend recording my favorite songs from the radio while sitting in front of my stereo 🙂 I admit the design looks pretty funky and goofy, but I still like it ^-^ In fact, I made it just for me really. I have a few old reliable messenger bags that I think might be ready to put out to pasture, so I wanted to make sure my newest big bag had all the organization I need to keep things in line.
This bag sports a back zipper pocket, loads of inner pockets, and a detachable shoulder strap so I can switch between carrying in my hand or over my shoulder at will. Of course the front is covered with awesome colorful appliqué, and there’s also decorative piping to give it that extra punch 😀

Freebie Friday! The Hardcore Hook Case

Prj042A

Prj042B
I should have made this project ages ago! Do you ever make yourself something like that? Something that you didn’t even realize how much you needed until it was finally done? Well, this case for my crochet hooks is about more useful than any other project I’ve made so far – and yet it took me so long to finally get around to it. While I have all of my knitting needles and crochet hooks neatly categorized in a binder by size, I didn’t really have anything to hold them while I was currently working on a project. Since my boyfriend also crochets, it was resulting in a lot of lost hooks and yarn needles while we worked on amigurumi and the like since we had nowhere good to put the tools while we took a break from our projects.

So I finally decided to make a nice case for the tools we’re currently using. This includes one side with hook pockets, ranging from large for pencils and really thick hooks, down to the tiniest slots for really skinny hooks. The other side includes pockets for stashing my paper patterns, and a zippered pocket for tiny tools like yarn needles and stitch markers. The whole thing is done up in some leftover green and black faux suede with some gunmetal snaps so the whole thing looks anything but granny square :B Now I know my boyfriend will be proud to carry it around when he takes his projects on the road – and no more lost tools!

Freebie Friday! The Engineer’s Pouch

Prj041
I did something a little steampunky again ^-^ It’s nothing to get too excited about, just a little pouch that I thought would work nicely looped through someone’s belt. Last year I made by boyfriend Batman-themed utility pouches that were a ton of fun to sew, so I wanted to dabble in it again. Since I still had lots of leftover brown and gold fabrics, the combination of this little brown pouch with gold gears seemed like a nice fit! I can totally imagine wearing this on my belt to hold my scissors, pins, and measuring tape >w< It features a flap with turn lock closure, two upper loops for going around your belt, and a small gusset on the bottom to give it a bit of extra depth.

Freebie Friday! The Hidden Pocket Tote

Prj034
This one is so simple, but just making it just made me so happy 😀 For one, it used up a lot of scraps that I had been keeping around for far too long. This seafoam green faux suede in particular – I bought it to test out making some gloves way back in high school! I bought way too much so I’ve been using up the scraps ever since. And now it’s finally gone! The other thing I love is the little hidden pocket feature on the front of the tote – the entire center panel of printed fabric you see is actually one large pocket that’s accessed from a clean little opening on the side. It’s made using a very simple method, but I just love how sharp it looks so it always makes me smile.

And lastly as I was using up my scraps to put the bag together, I realized the dimensions of the bag would end up being a little wide but short – that’s when I realized they were the perfect dimensions for a laptop! So while of course you can use the tote as a regular bag to carry library books or maybe some knitting, I decided to go gung ho and make mine a laptop bag with padding so the front pocket can be used for pens, flash cards, or your phone ^-^

Freebie Friday! The Gothic Lolita Purse

Prj033
Even though I’ve already done a Gothic Lolita inspired bag earlier, I’ve got to say there are dozens more Lolita styles I’d like to try before saying I’ve touched on them all >w< so here’s another one! Rather than a large satchel like the previous project, this one is more of a dainty-style purse with almost a tube-like shape. And of course it has some nice lace detail and a Lolita style painted motifs.
The fabric is the absolute last from a skirt I made way back at the beginning of college XD So once again I’ve finally used up fabric that I had been carrying around for years; I couldn’t be happier :B!

Freebie Friday! The Zip Top Purse

Prj032
Prj032B
I guess this purse is more conceptual than anything >w< It appears to be a typical purse with a flap, but in this case the flap is the top of the bag, which folds over to create the flap. The folding point is made from two grommets that attach on the side where the strap is attached. Then there’s an extra pocket on the front for good measure that’s easy to access. The front skull appliqué is of course completely optional XD but I just had to add it due to my own quirky tastes.
Once again with this purse I was able to put another long-held scrap fabric out to pasture :B Like with most of my plaid scraps, I had this one lying around after I made a pair of pants with it. Also like a lot of other plaid fabrics, I kept making little projects here and there with the scraps until finally this last one put the remainder out of its misery! Woo! Destashing!

Freebie Friday! The Pleated Patch Purse

Prj031
I was in the mood to make another dainty-looking purse again ^w^ This time I made use of some tiny scraps such for the corner patches, while the top section is made from the last bit of faux suede paisley that I’ve had since high school! I used it to make a long jacket initially, and I’ve been using the leftovers for other little crafts ever since. I’m kind of a sucker for putting together purple and gray, so the rest of the details for this purse just came together from there. I wanted something that looked a little feminine but also classy :B
