New Shop Pattern! Stacking Lions, Tigers, & Bears Plush

Hello everyone!
I’ve got a new pattern that I’ve recently added to my Etsy shop 😀

This is sort of a twist on the tsum-tsum stacking plush design. I honestly think Teacuplion patterns pretty much nailed the classic tsum-tsum style, so I’ve been curious about a different version for some time now. This version has a loaf-shaped body that stacks well with others — what sets it apart is that the arms and legs are splayed out in front, parallel to the body.
The downside is it does make sewing the plush a little deceptively difficult, but I’m still really enjoying the result! Sewing the arms and legs involves a lot of y-seams and lining up points. So if you’ve ever made my Nessie plush then this one might look a little familiar. It has all the important points numbered so you know exactly what to do. The major upside is once you get the hang of it, the sewing can go rather quickly because there are very few tiny fiddly pieces. I broke up the majority of the body into several steps, but once you’re familiar with it you can actually do it all in one go ❤

This shape of plush could work really well for lots of different animals, but I settled on a lion, tiger, and bear this time 😀 I thought they looked especially cute in my sketches and I couldn’t resist the urge to put a little fleece scarf on the polar bear.

To celebrate its launch, I’ll be offering it at 30% off for the first weekend! I hope you’ll give it a look! And if you snagged a copy, I hope you enjoy it!

2 Year Blogiversary & New Monthly Crafting Challenge!

Happy New Year everyone! My blog is 2 years old today 😀 2014 really went by quickly, likely because I was so busy writing books. Since the beginning of this blog in 2013 my first goal was to share my adventures in destashing my fabric collection, which is actually still going after all this time! I still have a decent amount of quilting cottons, some knits, satins, fleece, and a smidge of heavyweight fabrics. Call it a recipe for disaster, but I’m thinking I might actually get my fabric stash down to a manageable amount this year. I’d even be happy with just nearly full boxes of everything x3 no more overflow! As of today, I’m up to 66 free projects I’ve collected ^-^ it’s been a real wild ride, but I’m hoping I can get that number up to at least 100 by this year or next year to really bring my stash levels down.

In other news, today starts a new year of the Monthly Crafting Challenge! Back in 2013 I made a set of sushi plushies and challenged you all to earn and make them throughout the year, and 2014 was a set of Japanese snack foods in plush form. Now that 2014 is all over, you can now purchase all the patterns together at a huge discount. I have to say 2014 was successful because I got nearly 3 times as many project photo submissions as 2013! Thank you so much to everyone that made something and sent a photo in 😀 It’s really the highlight of my day to see your work ^0^ just keep ‘em coming!

Now, in 2015, I have a whole new set of 12 plushies to earn for you all…

Wait for it…

Punny food animals!

So the story behind this is the projects from last year like the Kitty Donut, the Takoyaki octopus ball, and the Usagi Manju were some of my favorite projects to make – and I get the feeling they were some of your favorites too! I mean, combining cute animals and awesome food, how can you go wrong? So to do more of these foodimal combinations I thought it might be more fun to include a pun in every way that I can. I’m sure you can get my meaning: hush puppies, corn dogs, porcupine-apples, etc. But I have a set of different ones, ones you may have never heard before, and hopefully much funnier! (Though I’ve been told I have a weird sense of humor – prepare for a silly ride :3)

For January, it all starts with this adorable Cinnabunny!

In case it’s not obvious, Cinnabunny is a combination of cinnamon bun and bunny but with twice the cuteness of course ^-~ It’s a very simple plush that’s a rolled up bit of fabric to make the distinctive pinwheel shape. Add to that some perky ears (dripping with cinnamony goodness) and an adorable blushing face and you’ve got the first of 12 punny food animals. Of course for January I picked a cinnamon bun because winter just seems like the perfect time to cozy up with a warm bit of doughy goodness like that.

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep sending me photos every month and you’ll get a new free pattern.

Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from December when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 You’ll have to purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

So don’t forget to check back next month for a new punny food animal plush pattern, and keep sending me photos of your amazing creations!

New Freebie for March!

Wow! I can’t believe it’s already March xD I know February is a short month, but it really flew by for me. On the bright side, I’m getting ever closer to finally catching up on all the work that’s been slowing down my posting. It won’t be long now, and getting to launch the new Monthly Crafting Challenge pattern for March is just a lovely reminder ^0^

As far as giveaways are concerned, it still might be a while yet before I’m close, as I’m only at 93,000 (out of 100k) pageviews on my Deviantart, but it’s definitely going to be the goal that comes up next 😀

I’ve also created a brand new FAQ for the Monthly Crafting Challenge 😀 I’ve been getting a lot of questions about some of the specifics of the challenge, so if parts of it have you confused, hopefully the FAQ will help!

But to get to the heart of the matter – the new prize for March is this fat little nikuman plush!
201403E

Nikuman in Japanese just means meat bun, which is exactly what these are 😀 They’re steamed buns made from a soft yeast dough and filled with meat – typically pork or chicken with some vegetables. I’ve personally have yet to eat what people call the best nikuman – that is the ones that usually come from street cart vendors in an Asian part of town. So for the time being I’ve only made my own — I haven’t quite got it perfect yet, but it’s been fun trying!

This particular plush was a lot of fun to make – while it looks like the typical kind of sphere shape, this plush has the trademark little pointed top where one would pinch the top of the meat bun after filling it. It felt like the buns just had to have that to call them a nikuman 😀 Also, they’re a little bigger than my usual plushies, which felt necessary in this case ^0^ they’re nice big handfuls like the kind you see characters eat in anime.

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from February when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during April to see the newest creation! And if you’re still a little confused about the whole setup, check out the new FAQ and maybe it’ll clear things up for you!

New Freebie for September!

Whoa August went by fast x_x! I can’t believe it’s already September! I feel like I’m still not even caught up from last month >w< I’m still working on depleting my scrap stash of fleece, as my stash of heavy fabrics is very nearly gone. But it also occurs to me that Halloween will be just around the corner! So maybe I’ll start working on things for that ^-^

Also this month I did my first ever giveaway 😀 At first I thought holding giveaways would be too soon, but some of my fanbase from DeviantArt has trickled over into Tumblr and Facebook, so maybe I’ll try to make them a regular thing!
I’m thinking for every milestone (kiriban) I hit on every different social media webzone, I’ll do another giveaway 😀
DeviantArt pageviews: 76,670/100,000 = 77%
DeviantArt watchers: 2,942/4,000 = 74%
Facebook likes: 946/1,000 = 95% (almost there!)
Tumblr followers: 540/1,000 = 54%
WordPress followers: 746/1,000 = 75%

It looks like the closest goal I’m at is Facebook likes! So I guess to get closer to the next giveaway, check out my Facebook page or invite your friends and I’ll be giving away something new in no time! 😀

And finally the last update I have is the next round of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for September is the pattern for this trio of Maki Rolls!

201309-September

These are really simple but are a definite staple in any sushi collection ^-^ They’re just a simple roll filled with a bit of filling (either cucumber, tuna, or tempura shrimp depending on what color you go for) and wrapped in rice and nori. With all the different filling and face choices, I just had to make a group of the little guys!

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for August today only, and after today the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can purchase the August pattern on my Etsy if you’re too late. But for now, just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to me or my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during October to see what I’ve cooked up :3

That’s right! For those of you who found out about my blog recently and are wondering how you can win the past sushi plushies, now you can purchase them from my Etsy!

The truth is, I was planning on listing the whole collection of sushi plushies once this first year of monthly crafting challenge was over >w< It just seemed like a good way to finish off the year. But very surprisingly, I got a huge demand for people that wanted to catch up with previous months right now, so I got to work on getting them Etsy-ready. So I want to apologize for anyone that had to wait longer than they’d like x_x I wanted to make sure the patterns I posted were worth your money, so I went back and edited them carefully, formatted them all pretty, and even did some extra testing to make sure there were no issues. The .pdf patterns even include a little section on working with printable patterns and appliqué so you’re helped every step of the way. Hopefully you’ll find the patterns you spend your hard-earned money on will be better than ever!

So please stop by my Etsy and have a look at which ones you’d like to add to your collection! They’re only $2 each, and $10 for the whole set if you want to catch up quickly. New Freebie for July!

Wow >w< it’s already July! I’ve been working so hard to prepare for Metrocon at the end of the month I barely noticed the time slip by. In case you don’t know, Metrocon is an anime convention in Tampa that I’ve been attending for 10 years now 😀 There I sell all of my handmade cosplay-style hats and hoodies (you can see examples on my Deviantart). So if you’re in the area, I certainly hope you’ll consider attending!

As far as my stash goes, I think I barely made a dent this month XD. In fact, after Metrocon is over I’m going to have to work with an entirely new stash of fleece scraps. So you’ll probably see projects for plushies and the like. Nevertheless, I still brought my total of free patterns past 30 😀 which isn’t too shabby – so I know all that extra fabric is going somewhere. And I have lots more project ideas to try out down the line ^w^

But the real reason I’m here of course is because it’s the first of the month, and time for the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for all of July is this super happy Tuna Hand Roll Plush!

201307-July

This is a completely new sushi style that I haven’t done before, as it’s in the style of hand rolled sushi as opposed to a sushi that’s been rolled on a sushi mat. Instead of a neat little round, hand rolled sushi is more of a mound of rice with some fillings in the middle, then the whole thing is wrapped in a cone of nori seaweed… kinda like a burrito I guess >w< Nevertheless, it makes it much easier to stuff the sushi with more fillings or unusual fillings, even though it makes the end result kind of a test to eat XD

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for June today only, and after today the prize is just this guy 🙂 Just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during July to see what I’ve cooked up :3

As much as I hate to say it, that’s it for June >x< July looks to be just as busy, so I’d better get back to work! xD

Freebie Friday: The Ringo Shiina Sling

Prj017Shiina 33
Do you like how crazy and edgy today’s pattern looks? 😀 This project is a tribute to my favorite musician of all time, Ringo Shiina. Ringo is a Japanese musician that’s been making music since about 1998, and her style ranges from punk, alternative, jazz, ska, funk, and even some hip hop. Her diversity is what I love so much about her. She even manages to fully integrate Eastern music styles with Western ones. It would not faze her one bit to use a shamisen for a rock song, or do a hard core punk version of a traditional Japanese ballad. She was also part of a group called Tokyo Jihen for many years, but during that time she mellowed out to just basic rock. Her solo stuff I always thought was infinitely better.

Ringo’s had countless guitars over her career, and they all look really awesome, but the one I had the fabric to make was her silver sparkle version of the Duesenberg Starplayer TV. Don’t get me wrong, if I had the fabric I would have made so many more of her guitars! I’ve seen other patterns for guitar bags online, but I really wanted to try my hand at making my own so I could make some personal adjustments. Firstly, the bag has some depth from an added gusset, it zips at the top, it has the guitar neck attached to the pickups as a strap, and of course it’s shaped like Ringo’s guitar! Even though it’s not sparkly, I had some leftover crushed velvet from a Christmas gift I made a few years back that I thought did a decent job of mimicking the finish of the silver guitar. I’ve added the star decal in the corner as it shows up in her Gunjou Biyori video and I thought it was an adorable touch 😀
