New Freebie for September!

Hello everyone!

September’s just begun, and I have to say it couldn’t come soon enough after the muggy and sweltering Florida summer over here x3 I’m very much looking forward to autumn, especially since my semi-hiatus has ended and I’m able to post more often 😀 As you might have seen from what I’ve been posting, I’m currently working on bringing down my stash of quilting cottons, so be prepared for lots of patchwork-centric kind of projects. I’m also painfully close to another social media milestone! Namely, my DeviantArt page views. So before you know I should be starting up another giveaway! Here’s what the numbers look like:

DeviantArt pageviews: 121,930/123,456 = 99%
DeviantArt watchers: 4,329/5,000 = 87%
Facebook likes: 1,429/2,000 = 71%
Tumblr followers: 752/1,000 = 75%
Wordpress followers: 1,328/2,000 = 66%

But now for the fun part; a new plush pattern for my Monthly Crafting Challenge! This month for September is a little plush taiyaki fish!
201409E

I knew a pattern like this had to be part of my collection from the get go, so I’m glad I’m finally able to introduce it! Taiyaki (literally, “baked sea bream”) is a little fish-shaped cake that’s usually filled with sweet red bean paste, custard, chocolate, or sweet potato. Savory versions are also popular and are filled with gyoza filling and other similar foods. It’s cooked just like a waffle really, from a special molded pan that has the fish shape on each side. The pink version can sometimes be seen when particular confectionery experts color the batter to make it look especially cute like that. It’s common to see taiyaki being made at school festivals or food trucks in Japan, so, sadly, I’ve never personally had one. It’s definitely on my gastronomic bucket list though, and for now I’ll have to enjoy the plush version instead ^-^

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from August when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during October to see the newest creation!

New Freebie for August!

Hi everyone out there in internet land!

It’s August already, so it’s time for a little update on how things have been ^-^ Looking back, I can’t believe so much of the year has passed already. Needless to say, I’ve been away on this semi-hiatus of sorts, only posting about once or twice a month, and that’s been due to all the books I’ve been writing! I’ve let you know about Bling it Up! already, but I should have more books releasing in the coming months, so I’ll be sure to post about that. Now with Metrocon over I’m taking a little break to work on the kind of things that started this whole blog – namely trying out new project ideas to bring down my fabric collection and sharing the tutorials with you! Stay tuned in the next few weeks and you should be seeing a bit of a comeback from me 😀

I’m also getting pretty close to my next giveaway goal, which will be when I hit a kiriban for my DeviantArt pageviews ^-^ Can’t say I’m surprised; my DeviantArt fans are some my best fans! You guys are awesome!
DeviantArt pageviews: 115,638/123,456 = 94%
DeviantArt watchers: 4,286/5,000 = 86%
Facebook likes: 1,405/2,000 = 70%
Tumblr followers: 752/1,000 = 75%
Wordpress followers: 1,288/2,000 = 64%

But now the real reason why we’re here; a new plush pattern for my Monthly Crafting Challenge! This month for August is a little plush square watermelon with matching basket!

201408E

Even though this pattern is quite basic, I just love the finished look x3 Many of you might know about the square watermelons that are grown in Japan – they cost a lot more money to buy, but they’re popular due to the novelty of them and that they fit perfectly in tiny Japanese refrigerators. I knew the moment I had the idea that I wanted the plush to show the adorable pink flesh with seeds, but there wasn’t really a way to make it work while still showing the full plush cube. Hence the basket option! It kind of resembles the carved watermelons seen at fancy catered brunches, but nevertheless it has a bright pink interior and you can use it to store your other plush creations or something :3

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from July when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

New Freebie for July!

Hello everyone!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already July! June was a real whirlwind for me, between preparing for Metrocon in a just over a week and running the aviator cap giveaway to celebrate 100K pageviews on DeviantArt ^-^ The giveaway went fantastically thanks to all of you and Metrocon is still on the horizon, so it’s no wonder I barely remember anything from June x3 While I’m on the subject, you all should know that while I’ll be attending Metrocon in Tampa, I’ll be taking all of the physical stock from my Etsy store with me. I’ll be leaving up the listings for .pdf patterns, since those allow instant download. So if there was anything you wanted to order from my shop, now would be the best time to jump on it before it gets sold in Tampa!

It also looks like it won’t be too much longer before I’ve got another giveaway going! I’m incredibly close to my next pageview goal; it’s probably my own fault for picking such a small goal, but I couldn’t resist the number :B
DeviantArt pageviews: 110,940/123,456 = 90%
DeviantArt watchers: 4,258/5,000 = 85%
Facebook likes: 1,380/2,000 = 69%
Tumblr followers: 755/1,000 = 76%
Wordpress followers: 1,269/2,000 = 63%

Onto the fun part, though! The next leg of the monthly crafting challenge! This month’s prize is for a fat little takoyaki plush ^0^
201407E

This one is definitely one of my favorite patterns of the bunch ^w^ Takoyaki are little fried balls of batter, filled with a bit of octopus. The finished ball is slathered in sauce, then topped with various things like bonito flakes. The real deal doesn’t have octopus legs like these guys, but what better way is there to show what’s inside these adorable and delicious balls of dough?
I’ve only had takoyaki at my local Japanese restaurant so far; they’re quite delicious though I hope to try the real thing in Japan one day. However, making them for myself might also be in the cards, since a few months ago I scored a $3 cast iron aebleskiver pan (the kind used to make Danish filled pancakes – I hear the pan works perfectly for takoyaki too) at Goodwill – I’m pretty proud of that find :3

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me. New Freebie for February!

Hello everyone! I know I haven’t been around much because I’ve been so swamped with work x_x But I would never forget to come and update for the Monthly Crafting Challenge! I got so many people that sent me awesome photos of their work in January! Thank you all for sharing your amazing sewings ^0^ With all that attention I hope that everyone’s been eagerly awaiting the prize for February! I can’t wait to see what everyone makes this month 😀

This is when I’d also usually update everyone about when my next giveaway will be. It will likely end up being when I hit the 100,000 pageview kiriban (milestone) on my DeviantArt. While I am really close at 92,000, it still might be a while before I get to 100k. So I’ll make a bigger fuss about it when I get closer :B

The prize for February is this squishy okonomiyaki plush!

201402C

Okonomiyaki are a popular Japanese street food that’s often described as a cross between an omelet and a pizza. The base is made from a batter of eggs and cabbage, with usually some flour and water to bind it together. Then that omelet-like base is filled with all kinds of toppings such as pork, seafood, and vegetables. The batter is then fried up like a pancake and topped with more delicious things like sauces, seaweed flakes, bonito flakes, and whatever have you. The name actually translates to “As you like it;” showcasing how the food can be filled and topped with whatever suits you 😀

This is probably one of my favorite Japanese foods to cook at home ^-^ The recipe I use most frequently is from this blog called Cook, Snap, Repeat. It’s not truly authentic because, try as we might, there are just some ingredients in Japanese food that are nearly impossible to find in the US x_x even at Asian grocery stores. But I think the recipe does an amazing job of creating a delicious taste with Western ingredients.

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from January when you sign up.

Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during March to see the newest creation!

Freebie Friday! The “Give Me all the Bacon & Eggs You Have” Tablet Case

Prj051
Today I have my homage to Ron Swanson of Parks and Recreation >w< probably one of my favorite shows currently playing on TV today.

The inspiration for this project came from a lot of sources 😀 The idea for a bacon case was one I made for my boyfriend a while back, and I’ve been itching to do it again. And I’m also tucking into my stash of lining fabrics. The lining fabrics sure are tricky. I don’t have enough of them for clothing, which is where they would be best, so I’m left to use them for lining things like pouches and bags. The fabric can be quite slippery so I don’t love using it, so I’ve taken the opportunity to try and devise some tricks while using it so the flimsiness doesn’t affect the project. You’ll see what I mean around step 4.

I knew that I wanted to create a project that combined the bacon and eggs together ^w^ so I thought making a tablet case with a matching egg pouch seemed like a nice fit! The bacon can hold your tablet while the matching egg pouch can hold a small cord, SD card, or maybe your headphones. I personally made this one to fit my Nook Color, though this pattern should also fit other 7” tablets such as the Kindle Fire or iPad mini 😀

October is nearly here! It still felt like September went by pretty quickly, but at least this time around I can say I accomplished some awesome things this month 😀

I am super excited to announce that for the month of October, in the weeks leading up to Halloween, I’ll be doing a special Halloween-themed tutorial every Friday! I’ll be posting them in order from most time-intensive to least time-intensive, so you’ll have plenty of time to make them for Halloween! So stay tuned this Friday for the first in the series *w*

During September I also held my second giveaway ^0^ It went even better than the first one, so I can’t wait to hold another one again!
Once I reach my next milestone, I’ll get the next one going! It looks like that’ll be when I get to 1,000 followers on WordPress >w< so close!

The freebie for October is the pattern for this Scallop Gunkan plush!

201310-October

This one is the last gunkan style plush in the sushi series for this year 😀 It’s just like the Ikura Gunkan and Urchin Gunkan, but the filling this time is a heap of sliced scallops ^-^ Just like before, those scallops are piled on top of a bed of rice and all wrapped up in a sheet of nori seaweed.

New Freebie for September!

Whoa August went by fast x_x! I can’t believe it’s already September! I feel like I’m still not even caught up from last month >w< I’m still working on depleting my scrap stash of fleece, as my stash of heavy fabrics is very nearly gone. But it also occurs to me that Halloween will be just around the corner! So maybe I’ll start working on things for that ^-^

Also this month I did my first ever giveaway 😀 At first I thought holding giveaways would be too soon, but some of my fanbase from DeviantArt has trickled over into Tumblr and Facebook, so maybe I’ll try to make them a regular thing!
I’m thinking for every milestone (kiriban) I hit on every different social media webzone, I’ll do another giveaway 😀
DeviantArt pageviews: 76,670/100,000 = 77%
DeviantArt watchers: 2,942/4,000 = 74%
Facebook likes: 946/1,000 = 95% (almost there!)
Tumblr followers: 540/1,000 = 54%
WordPress followers: 746/1,000 = 75%

And finally the last update I have is the next round of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for September is the pattern for this trio of Maki Rolls!

201309-September

These are really simple but are a definite staple in any sushi collection ^-^ They’re just a simple roll filled with a bit of filling (either cucumber, tuna, or tempura shrimp depending on what color you go for) and wrapped in rice and nori. With all the different filling and face choices, I just had to make a group of the little guys!

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for August today only, and after today the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can purchase the August pattern on my Etsy if you’re too late. But for now, just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!
