Free Pattern Friday! No Face Plush

Hi everyone!
I’m adding another Ghibli character to the collection! Fans of Spirited Away hopefully recognize this mysterious creature! This strange guy gets his name from being a black blob with no face (kaonashi in Japanese) and instead wears a Noh-style mask.

He has several key moments in the movie where he offers the main character, Chihiro, bath tokens and gold. I made sure with this pattern to include a huge variety of small items he can hold, including the bath tokens, gold, a classic heart, and even tiny little knitting! (His needles are toothpicks!)

The body is super simple, basically being a long dome. So it comes together very quickly. Sewing extra things for his hands is optional, but does add some more hand-sewing time to the overall work load. With all that in mind, I rated it a 2/10.

As always, the main pattern has templates to make the mask, mouth, and bath tokens in applique, but you can also use the included embroidery files as well ❤ The mask can fit on 4″ x 4″ hoops, and the full mask and mouth can fit on 5″ x 7″ hoops.

I hope you all like it!

New Shop Pattern! Long Dragon Plush

Hello everyone!
I’ve got a new pattern that I’ve recently added to my Etsy shop 😀

Although I’ve done lots of dragons in the past, I felt like I never gave due diligence to Eastern style dragons. Even my free pattern for the Haku scarf just isn’t quite the same as making a proper plush, so I thought I’d really go all out with this one!
It’s a 4-legged standing plush similar to my recent Big Cat Griffins and Fawn & Unicorn, except it has an elegant long body and a more powerful looking head. What I wanted most was a something that could do Haku justice (you can see on my Patreon how I did the tests to look like him). I opted to call it the “Long Dragon Plush” because it was just too perfect that long is the word for dragon in Chinese 😀 The Lunar New Year is coming up this Saturday, so while it may not be something for the year of the rat, it would still be a fun way to celebrate!
It has options to make the body with clawed legs or more paw-like legs depending on the look you’re going for. That’s one thing I love about dragons is how creative you can get with the designs and it just makes them look more epic! For example wings aren’t typical for an Eastern dragon, but I included them anyway just in case and I think they made a great addition to the purple one!

You can do the body accents as either flat spikes from minky or fluffy faux fur if you’re willing to wrangle with it. I used Shannon Lux Fancy Feather Violet and Shannon Lux Fur Mongolian Red. But most fur that has about a 30-40mm pile works well.
And for an extra touch I included how to do antler garlands (just like in the Fawn & Unicorn pattern). So that’s a repeat, but I just couldn’t resist putting some cherry blossoms on the cream sakura dragon ❤
There are a lot of little details that make this plush super epic, but if you’ve done some of the other similar ones before then this one should have some familiar aspects. Overall I rated it a 7/10 like the others.

There’s embroidery available to help make it a bit easier, which includes a menacing looking eye (complete with a scarred counterpart) and a friendlier one. You can also stitch up a fun forehead jewel for an extra accent. All the pattern parts fit 4” x 4” hoops so you can embroider this pattern no matter what you’ve got 😀
To celebrate its launch, the pattern will be 30% off for the first weekend! And the embroidery will be 50% off! I hope you’ll give it a look! And if you snagged a copy, I hope you enjoy it!

Free Pattern Friday! Jiji Plush

Hi everyone!

I’ve got another addition to my Ghibli pattern collection! This time it’s Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service ❤ This movie is a real classic that's still incredibly popular among fans after so many years. It's easy to see why with such a cute cat character in it!

This one has a simple round head with an added pointy nose as well as huge perky ears. So the ears are sewn into the head dart much like Kero & Spinell from earlier in the year. The body has a sweet sitting pose made by a simple gusset, so there is a y-seam to tackle, but it’s not too difficult if you pay attention to the markings.
You can dress it up in a red ribbon for a fast finish, or even make your own collar and ribbon from a different fabric. The overall look is pretty classic so it would be great in other colors.

Because of the details in the body and head I rated it a 4/10.
There are applique templates to make the face as well as embroidery files too ❤ You’ll just need to rotate your fabric to fit diagonally within a 4” x 4” hoop.

I hope this might help knock some Ghibli lovers off your holiday gift list!

Free Pattern Friday! Catbus Plush

Hi everyone!
I’ve got another Ghibli pattern in tow! I can’t believe how many I’ve done so far ❤ But there was huge support for this one over the past year. It was even more fun to design and make than I anticipated 😀 The big bus body with loads of little legs are just so silly and awesome; I hope you all enjoy my take on it!
I’ve rated it a 4/10 since the head is sewn on a little differently and all the legs can be tricky. But besides that it’s a lot of basic geometry to handle the bus body, so it might feel more like a 3 for you depending on what you’re comfortable with.
You can sew all the features with fusible web applique or using the embroidery files I’ve included. The face needs at least a 5” x 7” hoop as well as the body sides. However, the back of the plush, which has the tiny bus sign, only needs a 4” x 4” hoop. For fun I did the embroidered version in Tim Burton’s Cheshire Cat colors ❤ complete with glow-in-the-dark eyes. I hope you all enjoy it!

Free Pattern Friday! Totoro Plush

Hey everyone! It only seemed like a matter of time before this guy made another appearance, right? It’s probably the most highly requested plush character I get, and I’ve done so many other Ghibli projects it seems only fitting.
So this pattern is for a classic roly-poly shaped plush done up just like Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. It looks great in either gray or blue so it looks like either the large Totoro or the smaller Chuu-Totoro. You can also give it a big friendly grin or leave it off and it looks equally cute.
The belly is done by sewing outward curves to inward curves, so that makes it a bit challenging – not to mention all the hand-sewing for the ears, arms, and tail. So I gave it a 4/10 stars in difficulty.
I hope you all enjoy!

Free Pattern Friday! Haku Dragon Scarf

prj093

I’ve had the idea to do a dragon scarf for maybe a year by now, haha 😀 But I wasn’t sure how I wanted to tackle the head and also what dragon to do? I was torn between Haku from Spirited Away and Shenron from Dragon Ball. Well, I decided to just jump in and do it already, especially since Chinese New Year is this month. Obviously you can see who won out in the dragon decision ❤ I had to keep my Ghibli project collection going of course!
I made this cutie from fleece so it’s extra warm and soft. The body is just made from several long strips going down the width of the fabric. The little stuffed head is added to the end to finish off the dragon. It was tricky for me because I wanted to keep the head shape simple and cute but also 3D, so hopefully it doesn’t present any problems for you all. You could of course swap out colors and features to make lots of other dragon characters too!

The project has a good bit of hand sewing and placing small, detailed pieces. Plus the body of the scarf is super long so that takes some time to sew as well. With all that in mind I gave it a 4/10 stars in difficulty 🙂 I hope you all like it and it keeps you warm this winter!

Freebie Friday! Calcifer Plush

Prj059
I’m bringing back the Ghibli fanart! I’ve been wanting to make something Howl’s Moving Castle themed for a while, and I finally decided to take action after reading the original book and rewatching the Ghibli film. It was a real treat doing that, because I thought the book really complemented the movie. They had their differences, but they worked together in ways that made them both better, which isn’t common. Tales from Earthsea and the book Tehanu I thought had the same effect. But anyhow, after all that I can definitely say Calcifer was one of my favorite parts of the book and movie, so I wanted to make a little palm-sized plush so that I might feel just like Sophie did.
