New Shop Pattern! Floppy Dragon Plush

Hello everyone!
I’ve got a new pattern that I’ve recently added to my Etsy shop 😀

Over the past year, I had a lot of interest in a pattern for a floppy plush. I imagine that could mean different things for different people, such as something like a beanie baby. But I got it in my head to try something that’s posable. So I tried it out on a dragon first, to see if I could make one with weighted arms and legs so you could pose it in different ways. And I’m super excited with how it turned out!

The new pattern is for this small dragon plush that’s the perfect size for flopping around in your hands. It has extra poly pellets in its arms, legs, and body so it can sit up on its own or flop down on its belly. The limbs are posable and expressive, so it’s fun to see what kind of looks you can achieve. In some cases, I’ve even been able to get it on all fours ❤ Keep in mind of course that it poses best on a rough surface, such as a tablecloth, unfinished wood, etc.
And for an extra fun twist, the templates included are for elemental themed dragons – including earth, air, water, and fire. So you can mix them up for something unique, or go with a more classic dragon look.

The main downside of the pattern is that it’s trickier to sew :/ Definitely my hardest plush pattern so far at 7/10 in difficulty. All the extra bits, like the spikes, claws, and ears, are very detailed and tedious. On top of that, the head is sewn on by hand and takes some careful positioning. So this might be a little daunting for beginners, but I couldn’t help wanting to share it anyway.

To celebrate its launch, I’ll be offering it at 30% off for the first weekend! I hope you’ll give it a look! And if you snagged a copy, I hope you enjoy it!

New Crafting Challenge Pattern for May!

Hi everyone!
Another month has come and gone already! I can’t believe it! It feels like it’ll be another year gone by before you know it. I’ve been working on a lot of new patterns this month in addition to my usual Etsy store creations. I also have a few new features to share in the coming months as well; I’m so excited to see how everything rolls out!

This month’s pattern features another classic creature that I’m sure needs no introduction…
201605
A Phoenix!

Of course with summer well on the way it seems like this legendary bird of flames and rebirth seems appropriate, huh? It has my usual kawaii chibi-fied style with a super big head and little round body. But I’m sure it’s no surprise that my favorite part is the tail. The three sections nestle together and each has a set of three stripes in classic flame colors. You could of course modify this for lots of other beautiful birds as my flaming blue Phoenix shows. The tail takes a bit of time to do, but you could make it easy on yourself and just do a solid colored tail as well. The pattern gives a few tips on how to do that.
I gave this one a 4/10 stars since it doesn’t cover anything too intimidating, but there is a lot to do and many small pieces to keep track of. Like with previous patterns, I’ve labeled everything with a letter so you can keep track of what goes where. I know sometimes in cases like this I keep the paper pattern pinned to the fabric pieces until I need them. I thought I should mention that after taking in some feedback, I’ve done a bit of an overhaul to my current pattern style 🙂 I’ve included a lot more basic sewing information in this current pattern, taken 3x as many photos, and just overall tried to make it more beginner-friendly for those rogue novices that try out intermediate patterns. I hope you all enjoy the new look!

Freebie Friday! Calcifer Plush

Prj059
I’m bringing back the Ghibli fanart! I’ve been wanting to make something Howl’s Moving Castle themed for a while, and I finally decided to take action after reading the original book and rewatching the Ghibli film. It was a real treat doing that, because I thought the book really complemented the movie. They had their differences, but they worked together in ways that made them both better, which isn’t common. Tales from Earthsea and the book Tehanu I thought had the same effect. But anyhow, after all that I can definitely say Calcifer was one of my favorite parts of the book and movie, so I wanted to make a little palm-sized plush so that I might feel just like Sophie did.

Freebie Friday! Avatar Four Nation Trays

Prj055

Hey everyone! I’m back!

im-back-baby-bender-

Oh, yes 😀 After about 8 months of semi-hiatus, I’m finally back with more updates to the site! That is, back doing the thing that started me blogging in the first place: using up my scraps! In January of 2013 I realized my stash of fabrics weren’t doing me any favors and I finally needed to start chipping away at them, so I’ve been making little projects here and there and sharing the tutorials with you. I had to take a semi-hiatus for a while there as I wrote some new books, but I’m finally back with new projects to whittle down my stash.

These little trays came about because it was something I discovered I needed in my own home ^w^ I have a little vanity area that was in desperate need of organizing; specifically I needed something to hold my manicuring tools. I looked at what else could use a little help and found that I needed several more trays. I figured since I was doing a set of trays anyway I might as well make them themed. I hadn’t done any Avatar: The Last Airbender fanart as of yet, so I thought this would be a good chance to start. So, behold, a set of all 4 Avatar Nations as handy trays. For those that aren’t familiar with the show, we have the Air Nomads, Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, and Fire Nation and their respective symbols. You don’t have to decorate them with the symbols of course; they work nicely on their own for sorting odds and ends.

Happy Towel Day! Bonus Pattern: The Guide Tablet Case

Happy Towel Day all you hoopy froods out there!

One would hope you all know what I’m saying ^-~ But for those of you who don’t, I suppose I should let my nerd flag fly for a bit here. Today’s project is inspired by the book to rival all books: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. “The guide,” as written by the funny late author Douglas Adams in the achingly witty sci-fi novel of the same name, is an electronic book created by one of the great publishing houses of Ursa Minor, that can show you how to see the marvels of the universe for less than forty Altairan dollars a day.

That’s right, electronic books were thought of as early as 1979, and this project is a nod to the fact that the actual guide would probably be a lot like the Nooks, Kindles, and iPads we carry around today ^-^ I personally made this one to fit my Nook snugly, but I can see this case also fitting just about any other 7” tablets. Be sure to check the dimensions of your tablet to be sure, though.
