New Shop Pattern! Cosplay Hoodie

Hi everyone!
This new pattern has been SO long in the works – so I can’t thank everyone enough for your patience! It’s definitely one of my most requested patterns. An animal themed cosplay hoodie!
It’s the hoodie pattern I’ve been using for years to make original and fanart characters for conventions. And with summer and convention season coming up, it seemed like the perfect time to put the finishing touches on it. It’s a really simple and streamlined pattern that’s perfect for making quick changes and customizations to.

I’ve been sewing these hoodies actually for a lot longer than I’ve been making patterns, so I kind of wanted to be sure my skills at instructions were well-secured before launching such a big project. I’ve done dozens of characters, so it was hard to determine what should be included in the pattern. In the end I stuck with the most popular features along with options and tips for using the pattern as the base for your own original characters. The pattern comes with bear ears, cat/fox/wolf ears, extra-long rabbit ears (another fan favorite), and bat or bird wings. There are also options to give it basic wrist cuffs, a contrast bottom band, or thumb hole cuffs. And to finish it off there are tons of applique templates for putting a cute face or fun stripes and spots on your character.

The actual construction of the hoodie also contains help with sewing with knits, zipper installation, hemming, and even how to use a twin needle. There are two options, both a women’s-style fitted hoodie or a unisex/men’s-style relaxed or “boyfriend” hoodie. And what’s great is the sizes range from an adult XS up to 5XL! They need a lot of pages to print out the templates, so I’ve offered the option of buying the patterns pre-printed if you want to skip that step for a few dollars more.
So if you’re interested in making a costume hoodie either of a favorite character or one you made up yourself, this will get you there without a lot of extra work. And the extra ear and wing patterns offer loads of mix-and-match options, not to mention giving you something to work off of if you want to design your own parts.

I sincerely hope you all like how it turned out 🙂 I’ll consider doing more clothing or at least more characters if it goes well!
To celebrate its launch, I’m offering the pattern for 33% off for the first week!
I hope you’ll give it a look!

New Freebie for February!

Hello everyone! I know I haven’t been around much because I’ve been so swamped with work x_x But I would never forget to come and update for the Monthly Crafting Challenge! I got so many people that sent me awesome photos of their work in January! Thank you all for sharing your amazing sewings ^0^ With all that attention I hope that everyone’s been eagerly awaiting the prize for February! I can’t wait to see what everyone makes this month 😀

This is when I’d also usually update everyone about when my next giveaway will be. It will likely end up being when I hit the 100,000 pageview kiriban (milestone) on my DeviantArt. While I am really close at 92,000, it still might be a while before I get to 100k. So I’ll make a bigger fuss about it when I get closer :B

The prize for February is this squishy okonomiyaki plush!

201402C

Okonomiyaki are a popular Japanese street food that’s often described as a cross between an omelet and a pizza. The base is made from a batter of eggs and cabbage, with usually some flour and water to bind it together. Then that omelet-like base is filled with all kinds of toppings such as pork, seafood, and vegetables. The batter is then fried up like a pancake and topped with more delicious things like sauces, seaweed flakes, bonito flakes, and whatever have you. The name actually translates to “As you like it;” showcasing how the food can be filled and topped with whatever suits you 😀

This is probably one of my favorite Japanese foods to cook at home ^-^ The recipe I use most frequently is from this blog called Cook, Snap, Repeat. It’s not truly authentic because, try as we might, there are just some ingredients in Japanese food that are nearly impossible to find in the US x_x even at Asian grocery stores. But I think the recipe does an amazing job of creating a delicious taste with Western ingredients.

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from January when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during March to see the newest creation!

Bat Hat Giveaway!

Thanks to all of you I now have over 1,000 followers on my website here! In honor of this, I’m holding another giveaway!

BatHat

BatHat2The prize for this giveaway is one of my original hat creations, this adorable and fluffy little bat x3 It features cute little ears, a professional satin stitched face, and two long wings that come down the sides. It’s made from polar fleece which is perfectly machine washable, but also air dries quickly if you want to avoid machine drying it and keep it looking new as long as possible. It’s pretty much a one-size-fits-all for adults, as it fits heads between 22”-25” in circumference because it stretches so nicely.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
For this giveaway, I thought I’d try something new. While the randomly chosen winner will get the bat hat, everyone else will also get a prize! I’ve been working hard all month making some more hats and hoodies (like the bat hat here) from the last of my fleece yardage and they’ll be done just in time for the holiday season (stay tuned for an update about that in about a week) 😀 Once the winner of the giveaway reaches me, everyone will be mailed a coupon code to my Etsy store so you’re free to buy a hat at a discount if you didn’t win! ^-^

The fun part is, the coupon code is a mystery that you choose >w< When you sign up for the giveaway below, you’ll be asked to pick what’s behind door number 1, 2, or 3, and depending on what you choose you might receive a coupon for a certain percentage off your total purchase, a certain dollar amount off, or maybe a free gift with purchase – that kind of thing!

Thank you all again for signing up for email updates and getting me to over 1,000 followers! And good luck to all of you that are entering 😀 I hope the winner loves their new hat!

Here are all the details you’ll need to know when entering:
• The giveaway will be active from Monday, November 18th and the winner will be chosen at 10pm EST on Monday, November 25th
• To enter, simply fill out the form found at the bottom of this post
• The winning entrant will be chosen at random from the list of completed forms
• The winning entrant will be contacted via email about their win (so keep an eye on your emails for messages from cholyknight@gmail.com!)

• As a winner, you will be expected to divulge your address (or PO Box) to me so the prize can be shipped to you
• As a winner, your name or pseudonym (and website, if given) will be announced on this website as the winner of the prize, so every entrant knows who was the final winner
• By submitting this form, you agree that you’re totally fine with me emailing you a coupon to my store (just this one time, I’m not a spammer!)
• The prize will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail — domestic takes 2-3 business days while international takes 6-10
• International entrants are more than welcome to enter
• To all international entrants: note that you may be required to pick up your package at your local post office or pay customs fees. These rules differ for every country so unfortunately I can’t be held responsible for any extra charges you might be asked to pay.
• By entering in this contest, you agree to these rules 🙂

Edit! 11/25: The giveaway is now over, thank you everyone for entering!
The winner has been contacted as of 10pm tonight, and I’ll make a post about the winner and send out the coupons to everyone else as soon as the chosen person confirms their address 😀

Freebie Friday! The Battie Treat Bag

Prj047
Another Halloween treat for you all! This time it’s directed mostly at the kiddies ^-^ I had some scraps of black twill that I thought would work perfectly for a little treat bag. Lots of different animal options came to mind, but a cute little bat enamored me the most. Now your favorite vampire or witch will be completely set for Halloween!
The bag is just a simple bucket bag style, but the added wings, ears, and appliqué make it perfect for any little vampires or witches out there. Or you could leave off the handle and use it for handing out candy this year 😀

New Freebie for April!

Wow! Hard to believe 3 months have gone by already! I feel like I was a lot more productive this month ^-^ I got started on posting some of the knitting patterns I’ve been doing, I have a decent-looking group of 15 free patterns that I’ve cooked up, and my fabric stashes are actually looking significantly smaller! I still have trouble getting the lid on my box of cottons :3 but my heavyweight fabrics actually have some room in the top now 😀 And beyond that, I’ve used up most of the large fabric pieces, so over the next few months I’ll have to start making smaller, daintier projects xD or start getting into some patchwork. Before I know it I’ll completely use up that box of fabric and I’ll get to move onto the next box, I will be vigilant! Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, just keep sewing x3!

But since it’s the first of the month, that means it’s time for the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for the month of April is a fat little uramaki California roll!

201304-April

The assembly is super simple, and the details really make it look awesome. For the un-sushi-initiated, a California roll is a very American style of sushi, as it doesn’t typically have raw fish. Instead, it’s filled with imitation crab, avocado, cucumber, and sometimes with a bit of fish roe. This one is made inside out, uramaki style, so the seaweed makes a spiral on the inside of the roll. I’d also like to say that he’s a futomaki (thick roll), because he’s so fat (x3!), but those are usually made with nori on the outside.

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for March today only, after that the prize is just this guy 🙂 Just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!
If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during May to see what I’ve cooked up :3

I guess that about wraps up March. Maybe April will see the end of one box of my fabric stash! Just 4 more to go after that xD!
