Free Pattern Friday! Chocobo Plush

Hi everyone!
This pattern is another one that’s been highly requested over the past several months 😀 It was such a joy to make because Final Fantasy is probably my favorite game franchise and I’m really glad it’s still going strong with classic creatures like these silly birds ❤
I wanted to take the character in a slightly different direction than the officially licensed plushies and go with something more like art from the game. So these Chocobos have huge beaks that are almost toucan-like. And of course they have big spiky feathers on their heads, tails, and even little accent feathers.
I’ve rated it a 4/10 because the head has some y-seams that are a little tricky, the beak has some curved sewing, and the head is sewn on by hand. But the rest of the pieces are pretty straightforward.
You can sew the face with applique or use the embroidery files I’ve included. It’s small enough to fit in 4” x 4” hoops and still include a placement line to help you cut out the pattern. I hope you all enjoy it!

Free Pattern Friday! Supersized Pokeball Pillow

Prj081

I’m sure all you nerds like me out there don’t need much explanation for this project 😀 I made it from some scraps I had from some blanket projects earlier. I decided to just let the size of the scraps dictate how large the pillow would be, so I ended up with a whopping 24″ pillow, haha! We love big pillows in our house, so it’s not a problem, but I’ve included a scaled down 16″ pillow in the pattern as well if you want something more manageable. It’s put together the same, you just need to print different pages to get it 🙂

The fabrics are from Joann’s Ultra Fluffy collection. I like it as an alternative to minky since it’s a little thicker, fluffier, it’s double-sided, and a bit stretchier. I think it adds extra squishability to the pillow 🙂 I’ve heard some people have trouble sewing with it, so fleece would be a nice choice too. In the tutorial I’ve also included a little tip about using quilt batting inside the pillow. It’s completely optional, but I’ve found using a layer of batting between the outer pillow fabric and the stuffing inside prevents lumpiness.

If you decide to make it, I hope it works out well for your home!

Magikarp Hat Giveaway!

Magikarp Giveaway

Hi everyone! About a week back you all got me to over 2,000 subscribers! So exciting! I can’t thank you all enough for being such wonderful fans of this site 😀 To celebrate, I’m holding a little giveaway for this fun Magikarp hat!

UP FOR GRABS:
For this giveaway, you have a chance to win this slouchy Magikarp hat — a pokemon from the awesome video games and cartoon. It’s sized to fit unisex adults, and measures 23″ around — though it stretches to fit as much as 26″. It measures 19″ long from brim to tail tip, so it’s big and slouchy for a fun casual look. It’s made from polar fleece so it’s completely machine washable, though it’ll stay looking brand new much longer if you wash it on the gentle cycle and let it air dry (fleece air dries super fast). It includes all the little details too — like side fins, top and bottom fins, whiskers, tail fin, and big doofy eyes.

Freebie Friday! Gato Bag

Prj058

Okay, I have to admit this project is a little obscure XD It’s a present for my amazingly talented best friend; she loves Chrono Trigger, especially the character Lucca. In the game, Gato (Gonzalez in the Japanese version) is a singing robot that provides a little challenge at the beginning of the game. Since Lucca already carries around a blue bag, my friend came up with the design to make it Gato themed instead (though Gato is usually red) x3 I imagine she’ll probably use it if she dresses up as Lucca for Halloween or another party ^-^ If you’ve ever heard of the old SNES RPG I would definitely recommend it x3 it’s certainly one of the many all-time classics out there.

As for the bag, it’s a pretty standard messenger bag, so if you’re looking for that you can simply skip all the additional appliqué and cat ears that make this like the aforementioned robot; it takes the number of steps down a decent bit. I also particularly love how his eyes turned out. They were done with just a bit of fabric paint to give them that glowing effect. Maybe you all might find another application for the technique!

A new book! Craft Projects for Minecraft® and Pixel Art Fans!

Craft Projects for Minecraft® and Pixel Art Fans: 15 Fun, Easy-to-Make Projects

Craft Projects for Minecraft® and Pixel Art Fans: 15 Fun, Easy-to-Make Projects

I’m back again with more of the fruits of my semi-hiatus! Another project I’ve been working on while I’ve been so inactive this year is this fun book inspired by the awesome stuff of Minecraft®! It’s been up for sale for a little bit now, but I wanted to be sure to share it here when it was on Amazon with the full “Look Inside” feature so you can see for yourself if the book is for you!

Of course many of you know how crazy I am for pixel art and old school video games, so getting a chance to blend that with the awesome art of Minecraft® just seemed natural! This book is directed at young kids, but any budding crafter that wants to see the world of Minecraft® come alive should love it. It’s filled with 15 step-by-step projects as well as a huge idea gallery of other projects for creations that are easy to jump into like duct tape, Perler beads, paper crafts, and painting techniques. The pixelated nature of the art means everything’s basically made from squares and cubes, making it so easy to recreate in real life and to adapt and change to your whims. The book features a load of patterns and charts that are easy to follow for making the projects, though you can swap out the charts and use them on different projects to suit your taste. For instance you can take the Cardboard Costume Head – while it’s shown as Steve, you can easily change the pixels and make it into a Creeper, Enderman, or Pig.

So if you love the look of pixel crafts or want to go into Creative Mode and make some Minecraft® items of your own, I hope you give the book a look and see if it suits you!

In the meantime, I’m working on launching some new free tutorials to show here! I hope you’ll check in later and I’ll likely have more nerdy and quirky things to show ♥
