Black Friday Weekend Sale & Store Update!

I hope all of my American friends had a fantastic Thanksgiving!

I’m over here taking advantage of some Black Friday fabric deals online ^w^ and I thought I would pass the favor along to all of you as well! So this weekend I’m running a 15% off everything in the store sale 😀 no minimum purchase required! Just use store code BF2014 from now until November 30th

BF2014

And to help facilitate your holiday shopping, my store also got another little plush update! As mentioned last time, this week’s update is filled with a collection of red plushies, ranging from fuchsia to magenta to burgundy ^0^

Plush1127

First up, there are loads more punk bunnies in fuchsia, hot pink, and bright red. Each one has its own kind of ear detail – the red has tiger stripes while the other colors have different variations of plaid. So you can pick the plaid that you like the most 😀

After that are more ninja bunnies, but this time in fuchsia instead of violet. As before, she has a little shuriken in one hand and a blinged out katana on her back. There are also some new pink and fuchsia narwhals and octopi as always, as well as some new robots. But I’m most excited about the character in dark red: the steampunk circus bunny. She’s based off of a bunny hat design I had done previously with black and white stripe details and lace trim – and the whole thing is brought to life in plush form! I think her sweet little face really evokes the look of a poor little bunny that’s run off to join a very Jules Vernean circus.

As for what to look out for next, be prepared for some gray plushies ^-^ Most likely a lot more quirky designs from my big-headed sitting plush collection. I’ll see you all then!

Store Update – Purple & Yellow Plushies!

Hello again everyone!
My Etsy store got another update today ^-^ As promised, this time around is a group of purple and yellow plushies. There are a lot of rehashes of previous characters, but a few new creatures managed to sneak in too 😀

Plush1114

Like with other updates there are some narwhals and octopi in yellow and purple as well as another little robot in a butter yellow. There are also more punk bunnies in purple now with matching Union Jack details on their ears. A new character I’m happy to show off is a little violet-colored ninja bunny! Not only does she have a little shuriken in her hand, but a katana on her back as well – blinged out with beads, decoden style! I had made a group of girly ninjas like this in amigurumi form before, so I was so glad to get to create it in minky plush form as well 😀

And lastly is the batch of Puff Monsters ^-^ This will probably be the last batch of Puff Monsters you’ll see, so if one of them has caught your eye, be sure to snatch him/her up before they’re all gone! There’s an annoyed puff with his caffeine fix, a little witch puff complete with broom, and another dapper puff with a fluffy mustache. I think he might be my favorite so far – just love that little bowler hat x3 Just remember from here on out I’ll just be doing original designs. It was a ton of fun getting to collaborate with Bianca Roman-Stumpff ^0^ And I’ll see if making more in the future is in the cards based on how her fans react.

As for what’s next, you can expect to see a collection in the red spectrum – everything from burgundy to fuchsia to hot pink. I’m actually moving in a week or so — not far, just a few towns north — so you might see my Etsy store go on a short vacation, but if all goes according to plan I shouldn’t be held up too badly. See you then!

Store Update – Blue Plushies!

Hello all and happy Halloween!

I’m back with yet another update 😀 As I mentioned, this time I worked on some blue plushies in a lot of the same designs as before but with a few new characters thrown in.

Plush1030

As before, we’ve got narwhals, an octopus, and the punk bunnies have made a triumphant return! I used up lots of scraps of blue plaid to make this batch, and for the shades of blue where I didn’t have matching plaid, I made ragged-edged Union Jack stripes going through their ears instead. As always, they have that renegade angry face with skull bunny tattoos on the backs of their ears x3

In the Puff Monster camp I’ve got 5 new creations this time, so I tried out some of Bianca Roman-Stumpff’s designs that I’ve been itching to implement. Namely, we’ve got a very angry puff, a dapper puff, a puff with cat-eye glasses named Tiger Lily (I’m sure you won’t have to wonder which one that one is), and a very special puff that has a jetpack! Check out the one with the purple eyes and backpack straps, you’ll see she has a rocket pack strapped on, complete with flames and ready for adventure x3

And lastly I have some newcomers! A squadron of robot plushies, complete with little audio receptors (ears) and radio wave receptors (antennae) :B Each one has little claw arms and some little motif on the front – either a star or a pixilated heart. Like the punk bunnies, they also have poly beads in their bottom to help them sit on their own. These were some of my favorites to make, so I hope you enjoy all the variations!

I’m back to work then! If nothing slows me down, the next update should be a collection of yellow and purple plushies ^0^ See you then!

Store Update – Olive & Orange Plushies!

Hi everyone!
I’m back with another store update and lots more plushies! As promised, this round I used up the last of my green fabrics — particularly olive green — with some orange and mango thrown in.

Here’s the new gang!
Plush1017

In the olive camp we have some more Cthulhu plushies as well as one of my more popular characters, the Zombunny :B The huggable plush version has poor bitten ears and skull bunny markings while the pillow version has stitches all over. Both have that deadpan glare that always makes me laugh.

Next up are the orange versions of the narwhal and octopus plushies from last update as well as a new little fox character. Not doing a fox when I had orange fabric just seems like a waste x3 The other color I had was more of a yellow-orange, kind of mango color, so that got slipped in as well as this “golden” fox variation.
Lastly is a new group of Puff Monsters a la Bianca Roman-Stumpff. The last batch went over well with her fans, so I made more to see what they think!

Hoodies1017
Another group of items I have up are these one-of-a-kind bunny hoodies. A while back I accidentally ordered the wrong kind of fleece online and got sweatshirt fleece instead. Instead of returning it, I thought I would use it to experiment with some new hoodie ideas. My extra-long bunny ear hoodies have proven to be popular in the past, so I took that plan and ran with it, making each hoodie a very particular style. The white gives off a bit of a mod/Lolita vibe, brown is more steampunk, black is a full-on biker jacket, and the red is more of a sleek moto jacket. Unfortunately because these were experiments I was only able to make them in one size – kind of a small/medium. But I had so much fun getting to try out new styles!

I hope you all like this week’s update! If all goes according to plan, the next update should be blue plushies! So stay tuned for lots of aqua, turquoise, and teal next time 😀

Store Update – Plushies!

Whew! It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper store update, but that’s what I’ve been working on this past month! If you want to see what’s in store, just scroll down to the photos below. But if you want to hear more about the details then read on ^w^

The story behind this particular slew of items goes way back to my first book, Sew Kawaii! The book is filled with a good deal of plush patterns, so writing the book required loading up on a lot of plush fabrics like minky and faux fur. Needless to say, I had a lot of leftovers. I didn’t think much of it in 2011, but slowly the years went by and I kept getting plush commissions or I’d make things for friends. The problem was, no project ever called for the fabric I already had! I had to keep buying new minky just to get the specific colors I needed. So my collection kept growing xD Now three years later I have a whole bookcase filled with a rainbow of minky fabrics and I’m finally doing something about it!

I’ve found the best way to work through a fabric collection like this is to go by color, so this first store update is nothing but lime green plushies 😀

First up, I did a little collaboration with a very good artist friend of mine named Bianca Roman-Stumpff. She does these utterly adorable Puff Monster paintings. Each one is filled with so much character and are completely one-of-a-kind. For her recent birthday, I made one of her favorite Puff Monsters into a plush. She was so grateful for it 😀 but she did have one request: make more! So I did! If it turns out her fans like them I’ll probably do more colors ^-^ but for now, here’s the green gang!

GreenCollection

After that are my original creations, which include a little assortment of octopi that have different colored bottom accents, and some chubby narwhals with spiral horns. There’s also a little huggable Cthulhu and one of what I hope will be a larger collection, one of my punk bunnies! I’ve made hats of these little guys before and now they’re alive in plush form, complete with frayed plaid details on the ears.

GreenCollection

I hope you’ll give them a look if you’re a fellow plush lover! As for what’s next? I still have a bit of green left, but this time olive green. Then shortly after that will be orange! So stay tuned if you’re waiting for your favorite color to come up 😀 I’ll be sure to announce it here!

New Freebie for July!

Hello everyone!
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already July! June was a real whirlwind for me, between preparing for Metrocon in a just over a week and running the aviator cap giveaway to celebrate 100K pageviews on DeviantArt ^-^ The giveaway went fantastically thanks to all of you and Metrocon is still on the horizon, so it’s no wonder I barely remember anything from June x3 While I’m on the subject, you all should know that while I’ll be attending Metrocon in Tampa, I’ll be taking all of the physical stock from my Etsy store with me. I’ll be leaving up the listings for .pdf patterns, since those allow instant download. So if there was anything you wanted to order from my shop, now would be the best time to jump on it before it gets sold in Tampa!

It also looks like it won’t be too much longer before I’ve got another giveaway going! I’m incredibly close to my next pageview goal; it’s probably my own fault for picking such a small goal, but I couldn’t resist the number :B
DeviantArt pageviews: 110,940/123,456 = 90%
DeviantArt watchers: 4,258/5,000 = 85%
Facebook likes: 1,380/2,000 = 69%
Tumblr followers: 755/1,000 = 76%
Wordpress followers: 1,269/2,000 = 63%

Onto the fun part, though! The next leg of the monthly crafting challenge! This month’s prize is for a fat little takoyaki plush ^0^
201407E

This one is definitely one of my favorite patterns of the bunch ^w^ Takoyaki are little fried balls of batter, filled with a bit of octopus. The finished ball is slathered in sauce, then topped with various things like bonito flakes. The real deal doesn’t have octopus legs like these guys, but what better way is there to show what’s inside these adorable and delicious balls of dough?
I’ve only had takoyaki at my local Japanese restaurant so far; they’re quite delicious though I hope to try the real thing in Japan one day. However, making them for myself might also be in the cards, since a few months ago I scored a $3 cast iron aebleskiver pan (the kind used to make Danish filled pancakes – I hear the pan works perfectly for takoyaki too) at Goodwill – I’m pretty proud of that find :3

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from June when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.
If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during August to see the newest creation!

New Freebie and Updates for November!

Happy Halloween everyone! As exciting as Halloween is, it’s a shame that it also means October is over, so the month of Halloween patterns has also ended.

On the bright side, with over 50 free tutorials under my belt, I’ve made a lot of headway on my scrap collection! This whole adventure started with me tackling my heavyweight fabrics, which are practically gone now! All I have left are a few large pieces of vinyl, so I’ll have to pick some interesting things to use those for 🙂 My quilting cottons have gone down by at least half, and I’ve taken a decent bite out of my stash of satins, knits, and lining fabrics.

With that said, life has caught up with me a bit and I have some big assignments to tackle in the next few months, so I’ll need to take a break from posting new patterns weekly and probably go down to doing it monthly for a little while. But not to worry! I’ll be back a little ways into the new year to clean out the rest of my stash 😀 I’m hoping I can reach a goal of 100 projects before I run out of scrap fabric completely (that probably sounds crazy, but I’m sure you other sewers out there know that that’s a perfectly reasonable goal with the way fabric stashes are!). Then I can start featuring other things here, while still doing free patterns every once in a while ^-^

It doesn’t look like I reached any of my milestone goals during October, but we’re still exceptionally close to my goal for email followers!
DeviantArt pageviews: 83,617/100,000 = 84%
DeviantArt watchers: 3,342/4,000 = 84%
Facebook likes: 1,105/2,500 = 44%
Tumblr followers: 664/1,000 = 66%
Email subscribers: 955/1,000 = 96% (almost there!)

And finally the last update I have is the next round of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for November is the pattern for this Octopus Nigiri plush!
201311-November

This is probably my second-favorite of all the plushes I’ve released this year (I admit it, I saved my favorite pattern for last x3). And it’s the last nigiri-style plush in the series. It’s much like the Tamago, Uni, Tuna, and Shrimp nigiri, except of course the topping is a little slice of octopus tentacle, complete with suckers! I just love the way the suckers turned out on this guy, not to mention his adorable face, and that’s why I saved him for next-to-last.

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for October today only, and after today the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late. Just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the latest sushi!

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during December to catch the last in the sushi plush collection! Just one more to go; I hope you all love it! 😀
