Free Pattern Friday! Night & Light Fury Chibi Plush Backpack

Hi everyone!
As you may know, I’ve done some plush backpacks before for sale, but I had a lot of requests for a free version ❤ So I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I could design a plush backpack that was a good bit simpler, but still looked like a proper stuffed animal. Which brings us to Toothless & Light Fury!
I had developed this really chubby body shape that has barely any neck so it optimizes the storage space 😀 When you get down to it’s just basically a front and back with a lot of extra details sewn between the seams. It doesn’t have quite as much curved sewing or 3D shapes as my paid backpack patterns.

I found that this shape worked really well for Toothless – and since I hadn’t done anything for the last HTTYD movie I went for it! With any luck it might be helpful to those that wanted something a little easier than my paid backpack patterns. It’s still a little difficult for complete beginners, since it’s both a backpack and a plush and it has a lot of pieces. There’s an option for a non-adjustable strap as well as an adjustable one, so if you stick with non-adjustable that will go faster as well. All in all I rated it a 5/10.

The original pattern comes with applique templates, but there are embroidery files as well 😀 The eyes are stitched with applique because they’re so big, and there are little skulls for the tail fin too. Everything fits on 4” x 4” hoops so no one is left out!

If you want to check out some other fun color variations, I made a regular dragon version from Spoonflower fabric ❤ The pieces are available as cut & sew kits – though you still need to provide straps and a zipper. These samples are made from a full yard of fleece, which works well as both the plush material and the inner lining. And Spoonflower is having a free shipping promotion this week too so bonus!

I hope you all enjoy it!

Update! More embroidery files!

Hey everybody!
I’ve gone back and revisited my most popular older patterns to create new embroidery files for them 🙂 I realize they’ve been in demand for quite some time, so I hope you’ll forgive me for taking so long!
I went with my most popular free patterns based on comments and number of downloads, and the pages are now updated to include the file pack.

The new additions are:
• The bat plush of course! Which now includes both a round-eyed face with nose and the lashed-eye face with mouth and fangs. Both faces need at least 5×7 hoops.
• The Totoro plush, which includes both the face and the belly markings — both of which need 5×7 hoops.
• The Haku dragon scarf, which also needs a 5×7 hoop.
• And the Night Fury plush, which includes both the face and the tail design. The face also needs a 5×7 hoop, but the tail design can fit on a 4×4 🙂

I’m slowly but surely working backwards to try and offer embroidery files for what’s in most demand ❤ I’ve had a lot of suggestions for the Owl Plush, Kitty Bean, and Witch Kitty, but please do let me know what you’d like to see in the comments!

Pattern Hack! Night Fury Hoodie

Halloween is fast approaching! So I thought I might share this fast costume idea 😀 It’s an add-on of sorts to my cosplay hoodie pattern, but it works just as well with other hoodie patterns or even with a hoodie you might already own. It’s all the extras you need to make a Night Fury hoodie 🙂

The pattern comes with templates for head spikes, horns, back spikes, applique face templates, and wings as well as instructions for how to insert them into my hoodie pattern. It could even work for the shrug pattern from earlier this month! If you’ve got some sewing experience, it’s easy to see how these fit into an already purchased hoodie as well. Altogether you’ll have an awesome costume in no time!

Free Pattern Friday! Night Fury Plush

Well, you guys asked I did my best to deliver! I got a huge demand for a Toothless pattern after releasing the Totoro plush pattern, so I thought I’d give it a go. Hopefully I didn’t disappoint 🙂

I saw some awesome free Toothless patterns already available, so I wanted to see if I could contribute something different but still cute to the mix.
Unlike some of the already existing patterns, it’s not 100% realistic to the proportions in the show, that way it looks a little more baby-like and cuter. It’s got a flat, floppy body much like my bat plush, but still has all of the major details that make Toothless what he is 🙂 Lots of spikes along the head and body, and of course the red tail fin with Viking skull motif.
I must admit there was something really comforting about hugging it because it had so many things to grab onto, haha.

I gave it a 5/10 in difficulty because of all of the tiny details involved as well as the curves sewn in making the body. So it takes quite a bit of time to put together but I really felt it was worth it when it was all done. As you can see I made a dark blue version so you’ll be able to see what’s going on in the step by step instructions instead of a big black hole 🙂 Shall we call this new dragon a ‘Twilight Fury’?
But I think the new color also shows how you can use the pattern to make different kinds of dragons as well. For instance I think its shape and silhouette would make a cute charmander or charizard.
