Labor Day sale! And New Isopod Plush Pattern!

Hello everyone! I’ve got a new pattern I’ve recently added to my shop!
After my last massive pattern update I wanted to tackle something a little simpler. An isopod has a lot of votes on my pattern poll, and it seemed like a lot of fun! This cute little bug is of course also known as a pillbug or a roly poly ๐Ÿ˜Š
In this version, I did a lot of testing to see the best way to get it to roll up into a ball! I found snaps were the best solution, with strong hook-and-loop tape (a.k.a. Velcro) being the next best. I also wanted this version to have the segments found on the bug’s exoskeleton. To achieve that, it’s made with a series of pleats in the fabric. It can be a little tricky to do, so there’s a smooth version as well that sews up a lot more quickly. The pleats also add a lot of bulk, so it’s important not to use fabric that’s too thick.
The plush also has a set of tiny legs and antennae as well as optional decorative elements like spots, stars, and highlights. It looks especially beautiful in a rainbow color scheme, and as a bonus it makes it easier to keep your pieces in order if they’re color coordinated.
As usual, the pattern comes with applique templates for the eyes and different body decorations. You can stitch those on by hand or regular sewing machine. But if you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find those are also included in the pattern. All the designs have 4×4 hoop options, they just might have some changes to make them fit.
To celebrate the launch, the new pattern will be 30% off from now through the 6th of September for a Labor Day sale! And to celebrate the new pattern, all other creepy crawly patterns will also be 30% off — including snakes, lizards, and other bugs! Meanwhile the rest of my shop will be 20% off. I hope you’ll give it a look! And if you do, I hope you enjoy it!

  1. How unique! You’re making me love bugs. I bought your snail pattern and now you’ve gone and made this adorable roly-poly! ๐Ÿ˜

      1. I’m too young to have facebook, but I just saw the email me icon… would it be ok to send it to there?

  2. I’m planning to make this for my son, who wanted it the moment he saw it (as I knew he would). However, he wants a rainbow one with 6 colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. In the plated version, do you think would work to more or less just add another pleated plate similar in shape to the 4th plate, and to make the belly and legs longer to match? Do you think it would still roll up? Thanks!

    1. I think you could add another plate to make what you needed ๐Ÿ˜Š By my calculations, you would probably want to repeat the 2nd segment, since those edges would match up the best. It should still roll up okay, it just might look a little more like a ring rather than a ball ๐Ÿ˜Š I hope that helps and makes sense ๐Ÿ’— but of course let me know if I need to clarify anything.
