Finally got to make this highly requested pattern! Dinosaurs are always such a hit with kids so I hope this one is also well loved <3 This cute T-Rex has classic stubby little arms as well as a large head. It sits well on its own thanks to its big tail. But my favorite part by far has to be his goofy grin!
I had wanted to try giving a plush these cheeky eyes for the longest time and this t-rex was the perfect chance to show them off 😀
The plush has some darts, curved sewing, and tiny pieces, but ultimately nothing too out there compared to others. Though the teeth are done in one large double-ended dart across the head which might seem unusual. Overall I rated it a 3/10.
The original pattern comes with applique templates for both sets of eyes, but there are embroidery files as well! They are able to fit on 4” x 4” machines when the design goes across the diagonal, so be sure to look out for that in the files and the instructions.
This tutorial is part of the #sewasoftie blog hop for all of July from colouredbuttons.com and sewasoftie.com. Check out the tutorial for the 6th from Tina @missdaisypatterns!

What fabric did you use for this?
I used Shannon Smooth Minky for these 🙂 Specifically rust, jade, and violet. I hope that helps!

I am wondering if there is a way to attach the head to the body before stuffing it. Mine seems to be top heavy. I am having a hard time stitching the head to the body once it’s stuffed. Thanks. Adorable pattern.
You could probably leave an opening elsewhere in the head to use for stuffing later after the head is attached 🙂 But if yours is top-heavy, the most common issue is there isn’t enough stuffing in the body. If you fill it firmly all the way up to the neck it should create a more supportive base and make it easier to attach the head. I hope that helps!
I Love the design but am having trouble attaching the head to the body. Is there any way to do this before stuffing, perhaps leaving an opening on the body for turning? Thanks.
My heart just stopped working-
Thank you SO much for these free patterns and embroidery files! I’ll be making one of these for each of my nieces and nephews
Thank you for this pattern, I made a very adorable t-rex to include with my granddaughters dinosaur pjs.
Why is the teeth outside of the mouth? Why does the face look like that? Why is there only one row of teeth?
I was just going for a silly look, like it has an overbite 😊
Ah, ok. I think it looks a bit weird but i can manage.
I also have a paid pattern for a T-Rex that doesn’t have an overbite, if that helps 😊
Thank you for sharing this pattern! It was perfect for a very adorable guar from Morrowind. Love the proportions, it turns out so cute!
I’m loving this pattern! I’m making seven for my classmates in my Drawing class (originally for valentines but it’s taking a lot longer than that haha)
