New Crafting Challenge Plush for April!

Hey everybody!
March was a wild ride for me 😀 I opened myself back up for hoodie and hat orders on my Etsy shop, and I’ve been doing things made-to-order style for all my wonderful customers ^-^ I usually prefer to make products first and sell them ready to ship, but this way I can make just the right characters and sizes that people want.

One thing I hadn’t anticipated were all the little suggestions and requests people had for some items, like changing the face, adding a tail, using different ears, etc. Just tiny little things I never would have thought to add, but I’m happy to do. It’s pretty refreshing, actually! The only downside is it’s made me super busy this month, as you could probably tell from the sparse posts xD Rest assured that I’m working on more scrap-busting projects with every free moment I have, and you should be hearing about some book updates soon as well!

But on to the fun stuff! Being the first of the month I’m here to introduce a new punny food animal plush that you can earn! To continue the lovely spring theme from last month we have:
201504

Alpacarons!

This one is another silly pun that hit me like a bolt from the blue x3 It’s a combination of alpaca and macaron (the adorable French cookie sandwich), so together we have a big puffy macaron with cute alpaca features 😀 Being so delicate and sweet, a macaron seems like a perfect food for springtime. The project itself isn’t too difficult, but it calls for a lot of gathering and hand-sewing which may not be your forte.

New Freebie Challenge for February!

Happy February everyone! I’ve had a busy January xD I was actually working on more books! And hopefully some that you’ll get to see very soon. Luckily things have slowed down a bit and I’m able to brainstorm for more stash-busting projects – maybe even get back into making some more hats or plushies! We’ll see how things pan out this month.

Either way, as a nice break from the craziness of the past month, there’s a new Monthly Crafting Challenge freebie on the horizon! As I mentioned last month, this month’s theme is punny food animals. January had an adorable Cinnabunny plush, and for February we have…

201502

A Red Velvet Cupkit! (or, Red Vulpine Cupcake x3)

This one is a cross between a red velvet cupcake, and a red fox kit (kit being a baby fox of course ^-~). Being February with Valentine’s Day coming up, a lovely red cupcake just seemed fitting. It’s sized like a nice big over-sized cupcake, has scalloped frosting edging, perky little ears, and of course a sweet foxy face 😀 You could of course leave off the face and ears and have a darn good cupcake pattern of your own as well.

So how do you get this pattern?

If you haven’t already, start off by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right sidebar above “My Books”). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me.

So what if you’re already signed up for email alerts?

That’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep sending me photos every month and you’ll get a new free pattern.

Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from January when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 You’ll have to purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

So don’t forget to check back next month for a new punny food animal plush pattern, and keep sending me photos of your amazing creations!

2 Year Blogiversary & New Monthly Crafting Challenge!

Happy New Year everyone! My blog is 2 years old today 😀 2014 really went by quickly, likely because I was so busy writing books. Since the beginning of this blog in 2013 my first goal was to share my adventures in destashing my fabric collection, which is actually still going after all this time! I still have a decent amount of quilting cottons, some knits, satins, fleece, and a smidge of heavyweight fabrics. Call it a recipe for disaster, but I’m thinking I might actually get my fabric stash down to a manageable amount this year. I’d even be happy with just nearly full boxes of everything x3 no more overflow! As of today, I’m up to 66 free projects I’ve collected ^-^ it’s been a real wild ride, but I’m hoping I can get that number up to at least 100 by this year or next year to really bring my stash levels down.

In other news, today starts a new year of the Monthly Crafting Challenge! Back in 2013 I made a set of sushi plushies and challenged you all to earn and make them throughout the year, and 2014 was a set of Japanese snack foods in plush form. Now that 2014 is all over, you can now purchase all the patterns together at a huge discount. I have to say 2014 was successful because I got nearly 3 times as many project photo submissions as 2013! Thank you so much to everyone that made something and sent a photo in 😀 It’s really the highlight of my day to see your work ^0^ just keep ‘em coming!

Now, in 2015, I have a whole new set of 12 plushies to earn for you all…

Wait for it…

Punny food animals!

So the story behind this is the projects from last year like the Kitty Donut, the Takoyaki octopus ball, and the Usagi Manju were some of my favorite projects to make – and I get the feeling they were some of your favorites too! I mean, combining cute animals and awesome food, how can you go wrong? So to do more of these foodimal combinations I thought it might be more fun to include a pun in every way that I can. I’m sure you can get my meaning: hush puppies, corn dogs, porcupine-apples, etc. But I have a set of different ones, ones you may have never heard before, and hopefully much funnier! (Though I’ve been told I have a weird sense of humor – prepare for a silly ride :3)

For January, it all starts with this adorable Cinnabunny!

In case it’s not obvious, Cinnabunny is a combination of cinnamon bun and bunny but with twice the cuteness of course ^-~ It’s a very simple plush that’s a rolled up bit of fabric to make the distinctive pinwheel shape. Add to that some perky ears (dripping with cinnamony goodness) and an adorable blushing face and you’ve got the first of 12 punny food animals. Of course for January I picked a cinnamon bun because winter just seems like the perfect time to cozy up with a warm bit of doughy goodness like that.

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, the FAQ, or by emailing me.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep sending me photos every month and you’ll get a new free pattern.

Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from December when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 You’ll have to purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

So don’t forget to check back next month for a new punny food animal plush pattern, and keep sending me photos of your amazing creations!

1 Year Blogiversary & New Monthly Crafting Challenge!

Happy New Year everyone! Can you believe 2013 is over? I personally can’t believe my blog is 1 year old today! It all started because I wanted a nice little hub for people to come to when they happen upon my books, but I’ve gotten over 1,000 fans over the past year! I can’t thank you all enough! It’s been a blast making things all year and I can’t wait to keep chugging along for another one ^-^

As far as updates go, I still wanted to give a heads up that I won’t be able to post with free patterns every week until a few more months. I’ll should be able to post every month or so, but I’m still catching up on some other work at the moment :3 Hopefully you’ll all be able to see the fruits of my labor soon!

I’m also waiting on when to do my next giveaway, which will probably be when I hit the 100,000 pageview kiriban (milestone) on my DeviantArt. That will likely be a few months down the road, so I’ll make a bigger fuss about it when I get closer :B

The most exciting update, however, is the revealing of the new 2014 Monthly Crafting Challenge!
For 2013 I did a set of 12 sushi plushies and challenged you all to make projects from my books, website, and store to earn more. Over 2013 I received over 60 submissions! Thank you everyone that sent me a picture of their work ^0^ It was such a blast getting to see all the new little projects everyone made, especially those of you who were just learning to sew! And above all, I’m so flattered that people went through the trouble to make my designs ;o; I can’t thank you enough. Keep up the good work, everyone, I can’t wait to see what gets made for 2014!

So for the 2014 collection I’m doing… (drumroll please) Japanese snack foods!
After doing a whole set of sushies, I realized just how many more awesome and delicious Japanese foods I was missing out on that weren’t sushi, so I gathered up a collection of 12 and made plush patterns for each one. Here’s a preview of what you can expect throughout the year! I still want to keep a little element of surprise each month x3 but I couldn’t resist showing off the full collection.

For January, the fun begins with this plush mochi!
201401F

Mochi are a delicious Japanese confection made from sticky rice flour and traditionally eaten on New Year’s! (though they’re tasty all year round). The sticky rice flour is made into a thick elastic dough through rigorous pounding, then the dough is wrapped around a filling such as sweet red beans, strawberry, or ice cream. The finished treat is wonderfully chewy and sweet. I actually made a batch myself over the Christmas holiday — I personally love to fill my mochi with chocolate truffles. This project has a very simple pattern, but all the face options really make it fun. And the best part, I think, is that since mochi often come in loads of different fruit flavors from melon to lemon to green tea, you can make a whole rainbow of plushies!

You can get the pattern for this plush by signing up for email updates (found in the submission box on the right side of the page below the search bar). If you have trouble signing up, you can check out more info at the main Monthly Crafting Challenge page, or by emailing me. Also, bonus! for today only I’m offering both this pattern and the one from December when you sign up. After today though, the prize is just this guy 🙂 Though you can also purchase the older pattern through my Etsy if you’re too late.

If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog, my books, or my Etsy then email me or message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during February to see the newest creation!
