Free Pattern Friday! No Face Plush

Hi everyone! I’m adding another Ghibli character to the collection! Fans of Spirited Away hopefully recognize this mysterious creature! This strange guy gets his name from being a black blob with no face (kaonashi in Japanese) and instead wears a Noh-style mask. He has several key moments in the movie where he offers the main character, Chihiro, bath tokens and gold. I made sure with … Continue reading Free Pattern Friday! No Face Plush

Hi everyone! I’ve got another addition to my Ghibli pattern collection! This time it’s Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service ❤ This movie is a real classic that's still incredibly popular among fans after so many years. Free Pattern Friday! Totoro Plush

Hey everyone! It only seemed like a matter of time before this guy made another appearance, right? It’s probably the most highly requested plush character I get, and I’ve done so many other Ghibli projects it seems only fitting. So this pattern is for a classic roly-poly shaped plush done up just like Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. It looks great in either gray or … Continue reading Free Pattern Friday! Totoro Plush

Freebie Friday! The Tiny Totoro Tote

It’s Miyazaki again! I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself >w< I started out with this fun dotted print and thought it would look adorable with some white contrast bits. I was particularly excited about the idea of corner patch pockets on the tote, and while I was doing white contrasts, the idea to incorporate the chibi Totoro came to mind. While I love big Totoro like crazy, the Susuwatari and chibi Totoro are my favorite characters from My Neighbor Totoro I think x3 I actually have a plush of a chibi Totoro myself that I keep on my desk. So I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put them on something. I think the finished tote is just the perfect size for a trip to the library or to the yarn store ^-^

Freebie Friday: The Susuwatari Tote

Yes, I’m bringing back more Miyazaki x3 As much as I would have liked to do another character, the colors in this print that I had so much of just couldn’t stop reminding me of a Miyazaki color scheme – very earthy yet bright but not overly saturated. This dark brown faux suede that I thought matched perfectly made me think of what soot sprites would look like in a different color. So this is the result!
It’s a very huge tote bag that’s perfect for carrying around loads of groceries or other shopping, and the handles have an adorable shape to them that I thought was fun to come up with.

Freebie Friday: The Totoro Bag

Prj010
Ah, yes! Finally I’m getting into some of the things that I love 😀 This, of course, is Totoro, the loveable fuzzy forest creature from the Ghibli children’s film, My Neighbor Totoro. It’s probably one of my favorite Miyazaki movies, and really epitomizes the fantasy and innocence of childhood I think.
I had some gray twill that I originally used to make another bag. And while I kept making much plainer bags out of my other stashes of gray fabric, it finally clicked in my head that Totoro is gray, and would make for a perfect oval-shaped bag! I thought it was especially kismet when I saw this scrap of green linen and thought it would be perfect for the little leaf on his head. The leaf serves as the bag’s closure, which has a metal snap on the inside to keep everything together.
In addition, it’s covered in appliqué to give the adorable Totoro face and body, it has handles shaped like his ears, and I even lined the inside with an awesome leaf print fabric. There are quite a few details to get through, but I definitely think it was worth it for this awesome look, so I hope you’ll try it!
