Free Pattern Friday! Maneki Neko Coin Pouch

prj094
Last year during my legendary creatures collection, I seriously considered doing a Maneki Neko. It doesn’t quite fit as a legendary creature though, since it’s more like a symbol. Either way though, I brought it back! Since ‘Beckoning Cats’ or ‘Lucky Cats,’ as they’re often called, are said to bring in good fortune and money, I thought it was fitting to make them into little coin pouches! Maybe there are some out there with New Year’s resolutions to save money?

The body of this pouch is made from minky so it has a plush-like quality, but any thick fabric would work well for it 🙂 Much like with the squid pouch I designed earlier, you could also leave off the zipper and stuff it with batting to make it into a tiny plush! The pattern itself is rated 4/10 stars in difficulty because of the zipper and all the little details needed to pull together the Lucky Cat look – including all the applique spots, collar, ears, paw, and tiny bell to finish it off. If you were making a simpler cat it would be a little more manageable 😀
I hope you guys will give it a try!

Freebie Friday! Tri-fold Wallet

Prj065

This project came about because I realized I could probably use a new wallet. I’m not exactly sure what kind will work out best for me, so I’m trying out some different shapes. This particular one has a lot of the basic features: loads of pockets for cards, a slot for bills, and a pocket in the back for coins. I’ll have to see how it handles carrying my things. But if it doesn’t work out for me, maybe it will for you! I love that it gave me a chance to show off some of my large print fabrics because the whole wallet is basically one big sheet. The lining is made from polyester lining to deplete my stash, though it was a bit of hassle to work with so I’d probably recommend sticking with a thin cotton if you’ve got it.

Freebie Friday! The Power-up Quilt Blocks

Prj038
The pixel art is back! If you all remember the Heart Piece Pillow Cover, you’ll remember my love of all things 8-bit >w< I’ve been itching to make something pixely again so I gave it another go! With some leftover light blue fabric I thought maybe I could get some quilt-block sized squares to resemble the items panel from Super Mario Brothers 3. Granted of course the items in that panel didn’t include a 1-up and a coin x3 but I had to make the items that my fabric stash would allow.

The pixels would have been far too small to make the blocks pieced, so I assembled the icons with appliqué instead 😀 I think it was a bit quicker than piecing all the little squares together, but I wouldn’t say one method is better than another 🙂 For large pixels I think squares are still a fun way to go. Maybe I’ll revisit these blocks later and make more ^-^ enough for a full quilt!
