Craft Projects for Minecraft® and Pixel Art Fans: 15 Fun, Easy-to-Make Projects

Craft Projects for Minecraft® and Pixel Art Fans debuted in July 2014 and is my seventh book. It is filled with easy, kid-friendly projects for celebrating Minecraft® and pixel art in general. It uses supplies that are simple to work with, such as decorative paper, duct tape, Perler beads, and felt to create fun projects that bring Minecraft® elements to life.

This book is a collection of all the great ways you can make pixel-based art like Minecraft® come to life! For those that might not be familiar with the game, Minecraft® is an indie game that centers on using the environment around you to mine, craft, and build whatever your creativity can imagine. The aesthetic is like that of the 8-bit pixel games of yesteryear, so the look is not only fun, but very easy to recreate in real life! In this book you’ll find projects for kid-friendly crafts such as Perler beads, duct tape, paper crafts, felt, paint, and even a bit of crocheting. Loads of charts and patterns are included so you’ll be sure to find a project or character that you want to see come to life, and the pixilated look means it’s easy to adapt and change to your taste!

Some of my favorite projects include the Ore Light, which can be made to look like a block of diamond ore, redstone ore, or glowstone. When placed over a wireless light, it takes on the eerie glow of an ore block. The No-Sew Fleece Quilt is a fun project that’s made entirely by tying squares of fleece together. The one in the book shows a Creeper, but the squares can easily be swapped out so the blanket looks like another character. The Foam Tools project is a perfect way to bring your favorite Minecraft® tools to life so they’re not only safer to play with but feel like the real thing! And perhaps my favorite project is the Crocheted Creeper. The book provides a quick crocheting primer so you can create your own huggable Creeper with bulky-weight yarn. It takes a bit of effort, but you’ll find it’s simple to put together since the Creeper is made entirely of cubes! If you love the look of Minecraft® and want to go into Creative Mode, I hope you’ll give the book a look and see if it’s for you!

  1. Where can I find the textures as describes on pages 61-62 for the blocks? There are no links. This is surely missing from these “ideas”, as I should be able to print those blocks and assemble away.

    1. The textures are printed right on the pages 🙂 You can make copies of them at home or a local copy shop for cutting and assembling. It’s not quite as efficient as having a link, unfortunately.
