New Freebie for May!

Another month has passed, and it feels like a lot has been accomplished! I have nearly 20 free patterns in my stash of sewing tutorials, with many more exciting ones to come! And I also now have over 75 subscribers! So I want to thank you all out there who are following me and my work. Your kind messages and encouragement really help me keep going!

As far as how things are going on my end, I’m still working down to the bottom of my first box of fabric. I’m getting to the part of the stash where I’m in strange fabric territory. Maybe you all know what I mean – I’m talking about those old fabric scraps that just baffle you. They leave you wondering, “Why did I buy this again?” “What could I even do with this?” and “What is this even made of?” As I get to the bottom of my fabric box, it’s clear that I have some items that are less fabric stash and more time capsule x3

But I’ll try my best to make those scraps work in new projects! With some dye, fabric paint, or appliqué, maybe I can make them into something cool 😀

Since it’s the first of the month, that means it’s time for the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for the month of May is an angry-looking little Urchin Gunkan Sushi Plush!

201305-May

This one is very similar to the Ikura Gunkan plush from February, except with an urchin (also called uni) filling. Sea urchin is a delicacy in many parts of the world that are near the ocean, but the taste is something that many people debate x3 Some find it tastes horribly funky and like dirty ocean water, while others claim it’s sweet and nutty. It’s one of those foods that can differ greatly depending on the quality and freshness of the product, so keep that in mind if you have the guts to try it! Just like the Ikura Gunkan, this sushi emulates a mound of rice, topped with the sushi filling (two pieces of sea urchin), and then wrapped in a sheet of nori to keep it all together.

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for April today only, and after today the prize is just this guy 🙂 Just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!
If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during June to see what I’ve cooked up :3

So that’s the end of April, it seems 😀 With any luck May will be just as exciting and productive!

New Freebie for April!

Wow! Hard to believe 3 months have gone by already! I feel like I was a lot more productive this month ^-^ I got started on posting some of the knitting patterns I’ve been doing, I have a decent-looking group of 15 free patterns that I’ve cooked up, and my fabric stashes are actually looking significantly smaller! I still have trouble getting the lid on my box of cottons :3 but my heavyweight fabrics actually have some room in the top now 😀 And beyond that, I’ve used up most of the large fabric pieces, so over the next few months I’ll have to start making smaller, daintier projects xD or start getting into some patchwork. Before I know it I’ll completely use up that box of fabric and I’ll get to move onto the next box, I will be vigilant! Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, just keep sewing x3!

But since it’s the first of the month, that means it’s time for the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for the month of April is a fat little uramaki California roll!

201304-April

The assembly is super simple, and the details really make it look awesome. For the un-sushi-initiated, a California roll is a very American style of sushi, as it doesn’t typically have raw fish. Instead, it’s filled with imitation crab, avocado, cucumber, and sometimes with a bit of fish roe. This one is made inside out, uramaki style, so the seaweed makes a spiral on the inside of the roll. I’d also like to say that he’s a futomaki (thick roll), because he’s so fat (x3!), but those are usually made with nori on the outside.

If you haven’t signed up for emails yet, you can get this little guy along with the freebie for March today only, after that the prize is just this guy 🙂 Just sign up with the entry box on the side of the screen and I’ll send you the pattern!
If you’ve already signed up for emails, that’s where the challenge comes in. You can get this pattern if you make one of the projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I have a really awesome collection going of your creations! Keep it up every month and you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back during May to see what I’ve cooked up :3

I guess that about wraps up March. Maybe April will see the end of one box of my fabric stash! Just 4 more to go after that xD!

New Freebie for March!

It appears as though I’m at two months for my blog now 😀 This month felt a little less active, if only because I’ve been working on some personal projects for myself and others. I’ll try to keep you posted on those in the weeks to come! ^-~
I still haven’t made a lot of progress in getting rid of my stash, but I’ll keep chugging along until it’s manageable! And you’ll get to reap all the benefits in the form of free projects :3

But the point of this post is to introduce the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for the month of March is an adorable Shrimp Nigiri Sushi Plush!
201303-March

The assembly is much like the freebie for January, the Tamago Nigiri Plush, except the topping for this one is a plush little shrimp! I love the way it turned out with the cute pink markings and tail. He sits on top of a big mound of rice and is all wrapped up in a nori band. It’s very easy to put together, and I love the whole look of him ^-^ So if you still haven’t signed up for email updates, do so today and you’ll get the freebie for February and March together for today only!

Just as a quick update if you haven’t read my blog before, you can get this pattern for FREE through the month of March when you sign up for email updates. If you’ve already signed up that’s where the challenge comes in 😀 You can get this pattern if you make one of my projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I hope to amass a really big album of your creations! Keep it up and every month you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back in during April to see what I’ve cooked up :3

I actually had a fan that was really hoping the prize for March was an onigiri ^^;; sadly, I wasn’t able to fit that in with my sushi plan, but stay tuned over the next few days, and you’ll be in for a surprise ❤ And speaking of fans, if any of you out there are reading this and I may have overlooked you because you earned your March plush in February, please let me know 🙂 I don’t want anyone to get left out ❤

I guess that’s it for February! Accordingly, it went by super fast and before I even realized it, even though it’s only a few days shorter than the other months. I have a lot more projects to share for March, so I can’t wait to get started!

One Month Update & New Freebie for February!

So it looks like tomorrow marks my one-month blogiversary ^-^ I have to say that I’m ecstatic that I have so many new followers and fans in such a short time! I really hope I can keep it up and reach more and more people as time progresses 😀
A few updates feel in order: I’ve made up a small handful of free projects to share with the internetting world, though so far it’s only made a small dent in my fabric stash XD The progress I’ve made is that before I wasn’t able to get the lid on my box of heavy duty & suiting fabrics, but now I can! Better than nothing I suppose 😀 I still can’t get the lid on my box of cottons however xP And my boxes of satins and knits are yet to be touched.
With all those fabrics, I focused on making bags mostly. That’s all well and good, but I’m really itching to move onto some different projects. Maybe I’ll just take a break now and again with a something new, but my aspirations of clothing and quilting tutorials will have to hold off for another time ^-^
I’ve probably gotten a *smidge* better at being more loquacious, but I think I can still improve at being more talkative and open. I’ve been working on some personal projects that I hope to share in the coming weeks, so that will probably help.
Also in the future I hope that in time and with more followers and commenters I can start hosting giveaways and other similar things 😀 But for now I think I’m quite happy with the set up I’ve got going. Each small step has been a ton of fun so far.

Speaking of next steps, this new month marks the second part in my Monthly Crafting Challenge!
The freebie for the month of February is an adorable Salmon Roe Gunkan Sushi Plush!
201302-February

For those who are a little sushi-phobic, salmon roe is of course salmon eggs (also called ikura in sushi restaurants). They have a wonderful fishy, salty flavor that bursts in your mouth when you eat them. The gunkan term refers to how the sushi is assembled, with the loose mound of roe atop a bed of rice all wrapped in a piece of nori (seaweed) to keep the roe from spilling out. Whether you enjoy sushi or not, you can’t deny how cute this little plush is! And remember, this starts tomorrow so if you’d still like January’s plush, act today before it’s too late!

For those of you new to the blog, you can get this pattern for FREE through the month of February when you sign up for email updates. If you’ve already signed up that’s where the challenge comes in 😀 You can get this pattern if you make one of my projects from this blog or my books then message the finished project to my Facebook where I hope to amass a really big album of your creations! Keep it up and every month you’ll get a new free pattern, so don’t forget to check back in during March to see what I’ve cooked up :3

So I think that just about wraps things up for January ^-^ I certainly hope February will be just as productive, so I’m going to get back to work! ^-~

Free Stuff When You Follow Me! and The Monthly Crafting Challenge

I meant to do this when my website first started, but now you get a free pattern when you sign up to follow my blog! I couldn’t do it at first because I didn’t know how to find a list of who signed up, but I found it now, lol, so all is well! I swear I’m usually very good with computers >w<
The free gift you get is the pattern & instructions for this adorable little sushi plush! As soon as you sign up, you’ll get this emailed to you for your crafting pleasure! ❤
201301

But wait! There’s more!

I have a challenge for the rest of you, and it goes like this:
I have patterns for a whole set of 12 plush sushi, and you can collect them all if you put in a little effort.

Each month, for the entire month, I will give out a different sushi pattern to the people who sign up to follow my blog. Sign up, get a free pattern, it’s as easy as that.
(Keep in mind that if you follow me through WordPress I won’t have your email. So you can email me to get the ball rolling if necessary.)

But the next month will be a different pattern! So if you sign up in February you’ll get a different plush. If you’ve already signed up, your challenge is to create one of the projects from this blog, or from my books. Message your finished project to my Facebook page, and you’ve just earned yourself the new pattern for that month!

I’ll include more details and extra information about the challenge on the main page as it progresses through the year 😀

And that’s all it takes! Start by signing up, then post projects once a month for free stuff! But be sure to sign up before January’s over, or your collection won’t be complete! ^-~

Have fun crafting!
