Free Pattern Friday! Haku plush!

Hey everyone! Looks like we’ve got loads more requests for more Ghibli! Up next to add to my collection is Haku! He’s the majestic river spirit from the movie Spirited Away. He’s a gorgeous Eastern style dragon that has a very long body, teal fur, horns, ears, claws, and long whiskers. I’ve done some patterns for him before, including a scarf and a pattern hack for my Neck Dragon plush. But it’s so exciting that he has a dedicated pattern of his own now!

This version is a little simplified so he has a cute chibi body that’s still fairly long at 18”. He has a belly down pose with tiny arms and legs, spiky fur, elegant horns, a cute snout, and long ears and whiskers.

The body pieces have rather simple shapes, but Haku does have a lot of little details that really bring him to life. I find he really starts to come into his own when you add his muzzle and horns. Because of all that hand sewing, the difficulty is at a 4/10. If you’re looking for something a little more detailed or with realistic proportions, I would recommend my Long Neck Dragon plush. The Eastern dragon variation is quite close to Haku – hopefully I can make him another pattern hack in the future!

As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the eyes. These will work if you’re sewing the details by regular machine or by hand. If you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find the embroidery files available for download with the buttons below. I hope you all like it!

  1. Is it just me? When I click to download it opens another tab instead of downloading. Had no issue with the embroidery file though.
