Free Pattern Friday! Sea Bunny Plush!

It was so fun to see a sea bunny at the top of my pattern poll! These cute little sea slugs seemed to be all the rage several years ago, and I guess this means they’ve held on strong and weren’t just a passing fad!
All the better because a request for more beginner-friendly patterns was also on my poll and I think this design was perfect for that.

Not only because these adorable guys have a very simple body with not a lot of details, but they technically don’t even have faces! So you can skip any applique or embroidery and get right to making the main body, which has fluffy accent ears and tail that are perfect for showing off fun fluffy fabrics you might have in your scrap pile.

I did of course include some faces in case you want it to have a cute bunny face and body spots. I’ve also included directions for how to use safety eyes for a faster face as well. With all that in mind it’s rated 2/10 in difficulty.

The applique includes a sweet and simple set of eyes with a few mouth options, or you can also give it big round wide eyes. I was inspired to make one like a Ghibli soot sprite, so you have the option for classic body spots or little konpeito-shaped stars. You’ll find the embroidery files available for download with the button below. I hope you all like it!

  1. Thank you for adding so much cuteness to an increasingly ugly world. I just love all your patterns and make them whenever I get the chance. You do an excellent job. 🦋💐

  2. Aww, so cute! Is it ok that I sell some of these at a market? (Don’t worry I will credit choly knight or sew desu ne for the pattern.)

  3. Yes! I’ve been wanting to make a plushie of one of these so much! Now I just need a leaf sheep plush pattern and my life will be complete!! Thank you!!!!

  4. I’ve made one of these already in a purple color with brown/black boba stars to look like Taro bubble tea! All my friends want to steal it from me now. Thanks for the lovely patterns

    1. “Applique fabric” is just a label for whatever fabric you decide to use for your applique 😊 It’s a small piece of accent fabric used for things like faces and body markings, so you have options for what kind you want. Felt is a popular option, but you could also use cotton, flannel, fleece, or minky.
If you’re interested, my beginner guide explains it in more detail here: https://cholyknight.com/2022/01/14/starter-pack-plush/
