Sonic the Hedgehog has been a well-known character for over 30 years so it’s no wonder that he ended up at the top of my pattern poll! With numerous video games and now a bunch of movies, it was so fun getting to dive through all the iterations of this guy.

This plush version is a little more complex than I would usually do for a free pattern, but I just felt like I had to keep all of Sonic’s distinctive details. And this way his base body could be used to make other characters in the future! He’s got a tiny body, larger head, skinny arms and legs with big gloves and shoes, six huge head spikes and two smaller body spikes, an accent muzzle, and big expressive eyes to complete the look. Because of the larger head and skinny limbs, he is more of a rag doll style plush that doesn’t sit so well on his own, but it does make him fun to tote around.

I wasn’t able to make Shadow the Hedgehog this time around, but maybe for the future! In the meantime I would definitely recommend Sylenis Crafts who just made their own Shadow pattern. 

As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the eyes, belly, smile (or frown), and inner ears. These are if you are sewing the details by hand or regular sewing machine.
