Free Pattern Friday! Gargoyle Plush

Gargoyles were originally grotesquely shaped waterspouts built on cathedrals, but over time these architectural wonders took on character of their own. And now they’re seen as menacing monsters or loyal and vigilant protectors. Either way, they seemed like the perfect Halloween choice from what’s on my pattern poll this year!
This version has the classic perched pose with pointy toe and arm claws. It has a hunched over body to help it achieve that pose, while the face looks both friendly and monstrous with a cute underbite and vigilant eyes. It has huge wings to help give it that foreboding silhouette and optional crack details to complete the stony look.
It needs quite a bit of hand sewing to attach the arms, feet, horns, and wings. And the belly and legs need some careful curved sewing and working in tight corners. So with all that in mind it’s rated a 5/10 in difficulty.
As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the face, inner wings, and crack details. These will work if you’re sewing the details by regular machine or by hand. If you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find the embroidery files available for download here or with the buttons below. I hope you all like it!
