I’ve got a new plush pattern I’ve added to my shop!
A hippogriff is an animal that’s been near the top of my pattern poll for most of the year, and I finally felt ready to tackle it! A hippogriff of course is much like a griffin, but it’s a combination of an eagle and a horse rather than a lion. If you remember Buckbeak from the Harry Potter movies or books then you might be familiar.
I was worried it could seem repetitive because if you frankensteined other patterns together you could make one as well. But in this case I used it as a chance to design some new bird head types! You can make a head that’s more parrot-like with a big rounded beak, or one that’s more eagle-like with a long beak and backward pointing feathers. Or you could also make a cute owl head!
The back end of the animal could be made like a classic horse, or you could make a deer as well with cloven hooves and other tail options. And of course the finishing touch is a pair of beautiful wings. The instructions show you how to install them with jewelry wire so they’re posable, but you could skip that for floppy wings instead.
As usual, the pattern comes with applique templates for the eyes and different body decorations. You can stitch those on by hand or regular sewing machine. But if you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find the embroidery files sold separately at 50% off. All the designs have 4×4 hoop options, they just might have some changes to make them fit.
