Free Pattern Friday! Jack & Sally Doll Plush

Hi everyone!
I’m pulling ideas from my pattern poll yet again, this time something Halloween themed since spooky season is coming up soon! A very popular result was Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas!
So because this is a free pattern, I tried to keep the shapes and assembly as simple as I could. That means Jack’s suit is built into his body, but Sally’s dress is removable. They have a similar construction to my previous Bat & Cat Girl dolls except this time they have a sitting pose. But that also means that the doll size has similar proportions to my other dolls. So they can swap clothes for garments like tops and dresses — pants are not quite so forgiving because the shape of the doll bottom is different since it’s sitting.
Jack’s suit is done through applique and top stitching all over his body to create the signature pinstripes. Meanwhile Sally’s dress is made entirely from patchworked cotton. If you have an embroidery machine you can stitch one up very precisely, but it can be done without an embroidery machine as well! The instructions go over a technique called foundation paper piecing that allows you to get the precise patch shapes. Meanwhile the fabric patterns are done with a fabric marker or Sharpie.
Because it takes a lot of effort to create these detailed characters, I rated it a 5/10 in difficulty. There is a good bit of hand sewing, and the head has a lot of darts. If you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find the embroidery files available for download here or with the buttons below. And if you don’t have one, you’ll find the paper piecing and applique instructions in the main pattern.
I hope you all like it, and thank you to everyone that voted for this adorable couple!

  1. This is very similar to some of the free patterns that were first released 20 years ago and started the homemade plushie movement. It’s nice to see that the hobby has come full circle 🙂

    1. What color did you use for Sally’s face and body? I have dusty blue but I think she is a little more teal. Thanks!!

  2. *Gasp!!!!* Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, for sharing!!!! I’m going to be making them for my mom 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Well, now I know what I’m making my oldest friend for Christmas!! This is amazing! Have you ever considered selling fabric kits for your free patterns? I know some are Spoonflowered (and I’ve bought many), but others just need regular old minky. That’s the only thing that ever gives me pause with your awesome desigs – having to order so much more minky than I actually need.

      1. Must drop everything and make immediately! Thank you!
I didn’t see in the description… Will the embroidery files work for a 4×4 machine?

  4. I am crying, I have to make these immediately and give extras to all my friends. Bless you for singlehandedly saving everyone’s Halloween!

  5. OMG THANK U FOR MAKING THIS PATTERN!!! this is my little brothers FAVORITE MOVIE and his birthday is coming up so this will be the PERFECT present!!! 😄
