Free Pattern Friday! Opossum Plush

Hi everyone!
Up next on my pattern poll for this year is a request for an opossum! These are obviously very underrated little darlings and I couldn’t resist the urge to make them extra cute! They have big shining eyes with big ears, tiny fingers and toes, curly tails, and slightly longer snouts than I usually make. It was while I was designing it that I discovered the longer snouts make them not friendly to 4″ x 4″ embroidery hoop users. So I created a tiny version that is 4″ x 4″ friendly — in doing so I created a mama and baby opossum set!

So the pattern includes two sizes — the mama is about 7″ tall and the baby is about 30% smaller at 5″ tall. They both have the same construction, but slightly different pattern shapes. I found that the mama size looks especially nice in longer faux fur fabric 🤩 I used Shannon Luxury Shag for a really impressive result.

The forehead has a y-seam, and all of the arms and legs are sewn on by hand so you can make different poses. So with all that in mind I rated it a 4/10 in difficulty. As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the face if you’re using a regular sewing machine or working by hand. There are also embroidery files available if you have an embroidery machine. If you have a 5″ x 7″ hoop, you can sew the mama size quite easily, and if you have a 4″ x 4″ hoop, you can make the baby size.
I hope you all like it!

  1. Thanks as always! Though I am wondering about using beads or ball buttons for their eyes. I love the beady eyes on my nightly visitors.

  2. Omg, so cute!! I don’t know if you take requests or not, but I was wondering if you could please do a kakapo parrot plush? They are my favorite animals, and I think they would make a really cute plush🥰

  3. Now I’m going to sound weird but can you make a huggy wuggy and kissy missy plush pattern? I mean they’re kinda easy but I think they would be extra cute if you made it

  4. Once again, your pattern is ADORABLE! Question: would you be able to use this head with the body of your standing anthro or doll plush?

  5. I love opossums! I have a heated shelter area with two houses complete with beds, insulated and sheltered from the weather. I feed the neighborhood cats that people have as “pets” but they make them live outdoors, feral cats, opossums, and other wild life that need food. Occasionally I will have a skunk or groundhog feast. Dry cat food, fresh water, and good for them yummy food daily, chicken, yogurt, fruits, vegetables, sunflower seeds on their greens, etc., and the occasional cake as they love that. When I saw that you had the opossum pattern I was beside myself jumping with joy!! Almost all of my opossums are white, sometimes I see a gray one. Thank you for this wonderful pattern, can’t wait to make them.
