Hi everyone!
This time I’m checking another classic animal off my list <3 I can’t believe I’ve been making patterns for so many years and haven’t tackled a turtle yet! I kept this one sort of simple and sweet with a tiny little body and a big chibi head 😀 For a bit of customization you can make yours with little stubby arms for a land turtle or flat fins for a sea turtle!
Doing the hexagons on the shell requires some y-seams, but I think they’re good practice since the shapes are very basic and geometric. The edge of the turtle shell is also tricky to sew because it’s so curvy, but you can also skip it and the turtle will look just fine. Overall I rated it a 3/10.
The original pattern comes with applique templates for either a smiling face or a face with tiny nostrils, but there are embroidery files as well! They are able to fit on 4” x 4” machines when the design goes across the diagonal, so be sure to look out for that in the files and the instructions. And for some extra fun, I included some flower designs for the shell pieces too! I thought they were a nice touch. I hope you all enjoy it!

Love turltes! Thank You
Thank you so much. Another cutie!
Oh my gosh this is so adorable!! What other classic animals are on your list? (Is there maybe elephants on there??)
There is! I’ll probably make a poll later this year based on all the requests I’ve gotten so far 🙂 But other frequent requests during 2019 have been hippos, chinchillas, hedgehogs, bumblebees, opossums, tigers, and more types of dinosaurs ♥
Oh yes, Hippos and hedgehogs ♥♥♥ And some pokemon will be great too 😀
Beautiful! I must ask: How did you do the patterns on the back? Was that via an embroidery machine, regular machine, or hand-sew?
Thank you! The designs on the back were done with machine embroidery 😀 The shell files are bundled in with the face embroidery files ♥
Ah, thanks! I’ll save that for when I get an embroidery machine.
This is so cute!! I’m with Kay, elephants …or pigs? Thanks for creating these patterns for us!
Oh my gosh, I never even thought of piggies! Can you imagine a cute little piepald babe??
Sure! I can add pigs to the list ♥
I love turtles! Thank you so much!
Hi Choly,
This is absolutely adorable. Can’t wait to try it. Thank you for sharing your pattern. I, too, am wondering if you have a patterns for pigs and elephants. I love your horse & unicorn patterns.
Thanks again,
Bev
Thank you so much! I don’t have any patterns for elephants or pigs yet, but I’ll certainly add them to the list ♥ Thank you for the suggestion!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Thank you!
Thank you!! The turtle looks sooo cute!!
Thank you !!!
What is the meaning of NAP on the pattern ?
The nap is the direction of the fur on the pattern 🙂 If you were to brush or pet it like an animal, it’s the direction that feels smooth and natural. You can find a little more about it on page 5 of the instructions, and a lot more about it in this tutorial: https://cholyknight.com/2016/04/07/fabric-anatomy-and-cutting/
i loved this pattern! also do you think you could make a free chicken pattern?
Thank you for the suggestion!

Oh wow, that looks amazing! So fluffy! Thank you so much for sharing! ♥
Is it possible that there is a problem with the free embroidery file, because i can’t open any of the files that are downloaded.
I’m so sorry the files are giving you trouble. Do you happen to know what kind of program you’re using to open the files? First you’ll need to extract them from the .zip file, then you need an embroidery machine or embroidery software to open them.
Are there pictures of the pattern ? If so where?
Hey! Thank you for this pattern, it looks great! However, my embroidery machine claims the embroidery smiling face .exp files to be corrupted, is there any chance you have different .exp of this pattern? Thanks in advance!
Hello! I’m so sorry the file is giving you trouble! I’m not getting that issue on my end, but sometimes if I tell my embroidery software what machine the file is meant for that can solve it. So if you know your machine brand and model that would be a big help!
Thank you! I appreciate your answer🙏
Turns out the problem was actually the name of the file😅 Perhaps my machine does not like names which contain numbers
So after changing the name I’ve used the pattern and it worked well
Thanks!
Also, all of your patterns are great and I enjoy using them very much!
Hi, I might just be blind but I cant seem to find the part to attach the tail piece. I have probably looked at this for over ten minuets but still cant manage to find it, should i just eye where the tail should go??
Hello,
The tail piece is attached in step 17, page 14 😊 It’s centered over the belly seam between the back legs. I hope that helps!
Thanks!!! I didn’t know there were step pages, my dad printed the patterns of a cupple of your designs back in 2020. I just looked at them and their GREAT, Thank you
