Free Pattern Friday! Shark Plush

Hi everyone!
A bit of a simpler pattern today, which should be nice for beginners! It’s a highly-requested partner to the dolphin and narwhal plush I made previously 😀 A cute baby shark!
It has just a few pattern pieces like the ones before it and comes together quickly. I rated it a 2/10 — the most difficult part is probably the belly, since it comes to a point in the back of the tail like a gusset. But it’s not terribly hard to do. So if you’re a beginner this would be a good way to get acquainted with gussets. If you’ve never sewn anything curved before this might feel more like a 3/10.
The applique templates include a classic round eye, a big toothy grin, and silly anime-style eyes so you can make a tsundere shark just like the internet meme :3 Each version has embroidery files included as well – with the teeth done in applique. All fit on 4” x 4” hoops so no one is left out!

  1. Thank you for this cute pattern! In the embroidery file, the Classic Eye has a V shape with 35 stitches above the eyeball. Is this an eyebrow or placement stitches? Reinforcement for the gusset?

    1. Those are placement stitches ♥ They line up with the top dart on the pattern so the eye will be in just the right spot when you cut out your fabric 🙂

  2. LOVE!!!!! I can’t wait to make these for my grandchildren. Thank you so much for another great pattern!!

  3. Thank you so much I love your patterns and soon I will be able to stitch them out. I have ordered a new embroidery machine and cant wait to sew things on some of your patterns.

  4. I’ve just discovered your website, thank you for all these patterns ! You’re super talented, now I want to make dozens of plushies *-*
I’m just wondering, is there any efficient and gentle way to wash this type of plushies ? Since there isn’t any zip on the plush, I’m afraid that putting them in the washing machine could make the stuffing agglomerate. Do you recommand a way to wash plushies ?

    1. Thank you for the kind words about my work! I’m glad you’re enjoying the patterns ♥
I usually have good luck putting the plush in a very gentle cycle with a mesh washing bag, but to be extra safe you could also just spot clean any troublesome areas with a very small bit of dishwashing liquid 🙂
      I hope that helps!

  5. hiiii so this is my first tme sewing and i thought this might be easy, but i’m stuck! in the dorsal fin part i don’t get it, i can’t understand how to sew it, i need help, pls!

    1. Hello! I’m sorry it’s giving you trouble! If you have your two dorsal fin pieces, you’ll want to stack them with the right sides together (that is the nice side of the fabric). Then you sew around the outer edge of the fin, but skip the part that’s the straight edge. Your sewing should be about ¼” in from the edge of the fabric 🙂
If some of the terms are giving you trouble, I have an eBook for beginners here: https://cholyknight.com/2018/04/17/plush-sewing-basics-ebook/
I hope that cleared things up a little, but let me know when you need more guidance!

  6. Thanks for this. My niece is into sharks at the moment and it’s her birthday coming up. It was pretty easy to follow – even for a complete novice like myself! XD I did end up crocheting the eyes and mouth to sew on because my applique game is most def not on point. /o\
