New Product! Cut & Sew Bat Plush

Hey everyone!
Over the last few months I’ve really been getting into Spoonflower – the awesome service where you can get custom-printed fabric. I’ve been using them a lot for custom gifts for friends and family, and I thought I’d try them out to make a custom-printed version of my popular bat plush pattern. This way the fabric itself has a lot of fun details, and the faces are printed right on so it’s super fast to sew up! This is what resulted!

Their custom-printed minky produces really bright and crisp colors, even after washing 🙂 The classic darker colors like the gray and purple still have some white show up in the seams, but it tends to make the finished product look weathered in a cute kind of way. But if that’s not your thing, the lighter pastel ones don’t have that issue at all.

I created 12 different designs — you can check them out by clicking the corresponding thumbnails below. The bats need a fat quarter of minky or fleece to fit all the pieces, but that means if you buy a whole yard you get 4 bats! So you’ll find there are some combination options that let you buy a sampler of 4 bats at once.

The original instructions are changed just slightly to accommodate the fabric, and you can find them here: http://cholyknight.com/bat-plush/. I hope you guys like the options, and of course let me know if you’re interested in any other designs or prints! These were super fun to make and put together ♥

  2. Soooo CUTE, Choly! I love the prints. They truly bring a new look to your patterns. Keep up the great work – love your designs!

  3. I am probably completely missing it, but is there a link directly to the bat plushie on spoonflower?

      1. Thanks, I found it just after asking… but now I am looking at Spoonflower and confused about how much to order. I think I broke my brain with too much coding today. When I view the FQ size, the preview cuts the image repeat off about halfway across the back of his head parts. The full yard seems to give to full repeats and two halves. Maybe it is just displaying the scale incorrectly?

      2. I’m glad you found it!
If you select a wider fabric, like fleece or minky, everything should fit inside the FQ or yardage options 🙂 The default is cotton fabric, which is much narrower.

  4. These are adorable! In the 80s, I used to be able to buy printed toys to sew; they weren’t expensive, but they weren’t difficult (most were egg shapes) & i miss that cutting & piecing ease.
I’d love to see several of these for sale, including the Shiba Cube, the octopus, the donuts, & the Usagi Manju. Also, I’d also love to see your take on cars (I have one teenage granddaughter, & EIGHT grandsons) I bet they’d be super cute, & irresistible!

  5. You should do this with your werewolf, steam punk animals, kirin, love koi, and dragons! That would be awesome and I love this idea!
