I’ve had the idea to do a dragon scarf for maybe a year by now, haha 😀 But I wasn’t sure how I wanted to tackle the head and also what dragon to do? I was torn between Haku from Spirited Away and Shenron from Dragon Ball. Well, I decided to just jump in and do it already, especially since Chinese New Year is this month. Obviously you can see who won out in the dragon decision <3 I had to keep my Ghibli project collection going of course!
I made this cutie from fleece so it’s extra warm and soft. The body is just made from several long strips going down the width of the fabric. The little stuffed head is added to the end to finish off the dragon. It was tricky for me because I wanted to keep the head shape simple and cute but also 3D, so hopefully it doesn’t present any problems for you all. You could of course swap out colors and features to make lots of other dragon characters too!
The project has a good bit of hand sewing and placing small, detailed pieces. Plus the body of the scarf is super long so that takes some time to sew as well. With all that in mind I gave it a 4/10 stars in difficulty 🙂 I hope you all like it and it keeps you warm this winter!

Hi, Just downloaded the pattern (Can’t wait to make it!!) though I can’t seem to print it… Adobe says that printing is not allowed? Maybe I did something wrong….. HELP HELP HELP!!

I love Haku from Spiritrd Away! I can’t wait to try to make this. I am trying to finish up the last bit of the kitsune as well. I just have to attach the head. Thank you so much for the patterns you create and the love you out into them.

This is beautiful! Not tough if you take it step by step. You could use stretch velvets or stretch metallics if you want to vary the materials; if you do, iron-on interfacing on one half of the fabric will be your friend to keep the spikes standing up. Underlining to decrease show-through makes sense sometimes (test by putting your hand underneath, wearing a ring. If you can see your hand = not a big problem. If you can see the ring = consider stuffing with darker fiberfill instead of white on darker colors. If you can see the design or stones in the ring = underline this fabric) Have fun!

Pieces G & H are just straight strips you cut from your main fabric and trim later with pieces J & K 🙂 You can find them mentioned on page 5 with the cutting layout. The pieces are so big it would have been several sheets of paper to make them fit for printing, haha 😀

Greetings! I printed out the pattern and read over the instructions and assembled. “G” is not included in the print out for the body itself. Only the F1 and F2 for the back spikes are there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And I read the other comments and notated the G and H. 😀
Oh good! So I hope that means you found them 🙂 That is that they’re just rectangles cut from the whole of your fabric. I hope working on it goes well for you!
Amazing pattern! I love how my scarf turned out. I was curious as what interfacing you used. The interfacing I have only fuses on one side. How are you fusing the eye pieces to the head? Thanks again for a wonderful patter. I will definitely be looking for more patterns from you.
Thanks so much! I actually use what’s called “fusible web” so it’s technically not an interfacing at all. It’s a sheet of adhesive attached to paper (the adhesive makes a web design on the paper). I typically use Heat n’ Bond Lite, but Wonder Under also works well for me too 🙂
I finished making this tonight, love it! Did it with cheap felt for a tester, then made it with plush. Placed the body spikes in the wrong direction, but I don’t care.
My 12yo is so happy with it she’s wearing it to bed.

Hello! Pieces G & H are made by cutting strips from your main fabric, then trimming off the ends using the templates ♥ You can find it in the instructions on page 5.

hello! i love this pattern. I was wondering what the use of cutting an inch off of the fabric is. Is it to remove the selvedge edges?
Hello! I’m glad you like the pattern! To answer your question, if you cut the scarf pieces straight from your fabric, piece H ends up a little bit longer than piece G because of its curved shape. So if you trim it a little shorter, it helps compensate and it lines up better with piece G 😊 I hope that clears things up!
