Free Pattern Friday! Supersized Pokeball Pillow

Prj081

I’m sure all you nerds like me out there don’t need much explanation for this project 😀 I made it from some scraps I had from some blanket projects earlier. I decided to just let the size of the scraps dictate how large the pillow would be, so I ended up with a whopping 24″ pillow, haha! We love big pillows in our house, so it’s not a problem, but I’ve included a scaled down 16″ pillow in the pattern as well if you want something more manageable. It’s put together the same, you just need to print different pages to get it 🙂

The fabrics are from Joann’s Ultra Fluffy collection. I like it as an alternative to minky since it’s a little thicker, fluffier, it’s double-sided, and a bit stretchier. I think it adds extra squishability to the pillow 🙂 I’ve heard some people have trouble sewing with it, so fleece would be a nice choice too. In the tutorial I’ve also included a little tip about using quilt batting inside the pillow. It’s completely optional, but I’ve found using a layer of batting between the outer pillow fabric and the stuffing inside prevents lumpiness.

If you decide to make it, I hope it works out well for your home!

  1. I just HAD to download this pattern! I’m actually finishing up a pokemon quilt for my 20 year old daughter RIGHT NOW and this will be the perfect accessory to go with it!!! I just have to go out and find some nice minky in those colors or order some online! Thanks for the pattern!

  2. Thank so much for this pattern! Great time to release it as Pokken Tournament came out today! (I recommend the game, it is so awesome!)

  3. I do have one question which I cannot locate in the instructions.
Does the pattern already have a seam allowance included on the pattern, or do I need to add one prior to cutting it out?
And what is the size of seam allowance have you used for this pattern?

This is an awesome pattern. Thank you so much. I have 3 grandchildren who are going nuts over this game so I know they’ll love it. Two of them have birthdays at the end of this month so I am in the process of making each of them their own pillow.

    1. I’m so glad you like the pattern!
To answer your question, the seam allowance is included 😀 The dashed line on the pattern shows where the seams should be and the solid line is the cutting line. So it should be 1/2″ seam allowance for all the pieces. That’s listed on the pattern piece label along with how many pieces to cut (and from what color) and things like that. So hopefully you can find it okay!
I hope that helps! But of course let me know if you have any other questions!

  4. Thank you for this pattern. My grandson was thrilled. I made for him to go with his Pokémon game he requested.

  5. I teach sewing lessons and thought this could be super fun for my Kids Create Night! Do you mind if I use this pattern with them as long as I give credit and link to your site?
