Free Pattern Friday! Piranha plant hat!

Hey everyone! It’s been quite a while since I’ve made a wearable pattern! But the request for more hats was one that gradually made its way to the top of my pattern poll. It felt like a perfect opportunity to make something for Halloween! I decided on something from Super Mario – this piranha plant hat!

Fans of the games or movies should hopefully recognize this carnivorous plant. It has a red spotted head with big white lips and teeth. Put altogether in hat form you’ve got a toothy enemy that chomps down on your head! To complete the look it has a little green stem so it’s unmistakable as the classic Mario villain.

This pattern has sizes from newborn at 13” all the way up to large adult at 25” so everyone can join in the spooky fun! The instructions show how to measure your head to get the right size. It’s best made of a stretchy warm material like fleece, so there’s some wiggle room with the sizing.

As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the details like the big white spots. These will work if you’re sewing the details by regular machine or by hand. If you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find the embroidery files available for download with the buttons below. I hope you all like it!
