A realistic octopus climbed its way to the top of my pattern poll by this time, and it was a very fun creature to revisit! A simpler, chibi octopus was something I made during the beginnings of this site. But that had much more basic shapes. While I designed these fun cephalopods, I also played around with making a dumbo octopus and vampire squid as well! And I couldn’t resist making large versions of each one so you can have bigger squishy cuddles when they’re done.
The dumbo octopus and vampire squid are bundled together because they have very similar construction. Meanwhile the long octopus has fun options for head spikes if you want a sea monster look, or ring markings to make a blue-ringed octopus.
If you sew by hand or regular sewing machine, you can create the eyes and other details with fusible web applique. The instructions include everything you need for that. Or if you have an embroidery machine, you’ll find there are embroidery files sold separately, which are 50% off for the sale. Some of the larger plush files couldn’t be made 4×4 friendly, but you can still make everything with in the smaller size.

Hey Cholyknight, it’s me, Unicorn Fairy. I was thinking you could dress the Dumbo Octopus as Dumbo the Flying Elephant from Disney.

I was thinking you thinking you could do the Cephalopods from the show Octonauts like Professor Inkling and Squirt the Dumbo Octopuses, Vampire Squid, Coba the Caribbean Reef Octopus, Irving the Giant Squid, the Colossal Squid, the Blue Ringed Octopus, the Long Armed Squid, Mortimer the Mimic Octopus, the Firefly Squid, the Giant Pacific Octopus, the Coconut Octopus, and the Cuttlefish.

I bought this pattern and love it. My kids love Gaby’s Dollhouse so if you ever make a DJ Catnip hack I’ll be one of the first to try it.
For now my littlest wi enjoy having her own octopus. She hated that she had to leave the one behind that was at a friend’s house. So she’ll enjoy having her own!
