It was exciting to see just how many votes a kitsune got on the poll!
For super long-time fans, you might know that I’ve already done a Kitsune pattern. But at this point that was almost 8 years ago now So it couldn’t hurt to circle back and have another go at this majestic creature. I want to thank everyone who’s been around supporting me for this long or purchased the older version. I hope you’ll enjoy this one just as much!
Of course for those who don’t know, kitsune is the Japanese word for fox. But in Japanese folklore, foxes are magical creatures, often with shape-shifting abilities. When they grow older and more powerful, their tail splits into 2 and eventually up to 9 tails.
This plush version of the animal has a cute belly-down pose with tiny little accented arms and legs. The face has beautiful red accents inspired by Japanese kitsune masks and a tiny round muzzle. It has an accent neck fluff that can be made with fluffy fabrics for extra fun. And of course it has 9 epic tails that make a huge fan shape on its back. Each tail has an accent tip for a chance to add more color.
The arms and legs are sewn into the body seam, which can make things a little tight and crowded. And of course all 9 tails take some time to assemble and attach, which can get a little tedious. So with all that in mind I rated it a 5/10 in difficulty.
As always, the pattern comes with applique templates to make the face and other details. These will work if you’re sewing the details by regular machine or by hand.
